Funny baby shower story (at least I think it's funny)

I am a special ed teacher and have four aides who work in my classroom.  Today, they said they needed to talk to me about something.  I, of course, thought the worst, lol.  Nope, not this time.  They have planned a school-wide baby shower for me for tomorrow at 2:30 (yay)!  The problem?  I have a big meeting at the district offices at 2:30, lol.  I told them I was so grateful, but I really couldn't miss the meeting. Soooo, a fellow special ed teacher tried to call district all morning to see if they would reschedule.  She never got a hold of anyone.

So, they decided to postpone the shower til Friday.  Cool.  I am flexible (especially when people want to wish me well and bring me gifts and feed me, lol).  The plan was for me to still act surprised on Friday.

My fellow special ed teacher asked our school secretary to put out an email telling everyone that, due to a scheduling conflict, the baby shower has been moved to Friday.  Guess who she included in that email?  Me, lol.

I am really fortunate to work with some pretty spectacular people. :)

    And the above is in direct contrast to the conversation I had with the sister last night.  Here's how that went down:

    Her: "So, what, like 12 to 4?"
    Me: "For what?"
    Her: "For the stupid shower."
    Me, out loud: "I think three hours is more than enough time."
    Me, inside my head: "Don't do anything you don't freaking want to do."

    Sigh.

    That is pretty funny about the baby shower.  Sounds like you work with some awesome people!  Sorry to hear your sister drama is continuing.  Not much longer, though - once you move into your house, hopefully things will be better between you and her.

    That's hilarious. They did one at my old job when I had our first. It was funny because they told me a client was there to meet with me. And the name they used was like THE biggest pain in the butt client I've ever dealt with. So I said ok let me pee first because of course I was like 36 wks. So I head to the bathroom and I'm taking my sweet time because I'm just dreading meeting this person. Finally I go to the conference room and they're all in there with balloons and gifts and said Geez we thought you weren't coming. I say hey pick s nicer client next time. Lol.

    I'm sorry your sister is less than enthusiastic! I hope it goes well anyway!

    Sister is coming around.  Showed me the invitations she bought today.  Asked me a few questions about things.  I am definitely the event planner of the family.  Her .. not so much, lol.  I'll be printing out maps of how to get to our clubhouse (where the shower will be) tomorrow, which I don't mind.  I just wish she wouldn't act like everything is such a hassle.  To be fair, she is pretty much like that in all aspects of her life, not just this shower, so I guess I should try not to take it personally.

    Lol! That sounds like something I would do.  So, I guess you were truly surprised, lol!

    jerseygirl227 I totally was surprised. I was also kind of a dummy about it because when I opened the door it just wasn't registering with me .. I guess because I really didn't expect that they would do that so I was like weird why is like EVERYONE in here? lol  Then I started noticing balloons and a cake and gifts.  It was nice. I doubt my current employer would do anything... especially since it's my third.  My current employer just isn't that touchy feely.

    It was very, very nice.  My aides went crazy with the decorations, and the place looked amazing.  They even made paper garland of the nursery pattern we registered for.  It was hung all around the room.  I saved it to use in the nursery.

    Lots of people came out.  I was very touched and a little overwhelmed.  (I've never had any kind of shower before.)  I received a lot of nice things, and still can't believe how generous everyone was.
