3 months pregnant with no insurance

I am so excited I just turned 9 weeks pregnant. My last pregnancy I had a missed miscarriage when I went in at 8 weeks the baby stopped growing at 6 weeks. So with that being said I am very concerned that Medicaid has denied me insurance saying that me and my BOYFRIEND make to much for two people. I am not sure what to do as I should of already been to my first appointment. I now have to make the decision to quit my job and re apply just to make sure me and my baby are ok. If anyone knows of any other options please let me know. I live in south carolina by the way

You should be able to apply for Medicaid. You will need a proof of pregnancy from your Dr.

I applied for Medicaid and got denied that is what I was saying. We make to much.
  • You shouldn't be denied if you are pregnant. I thought it was illegal to deny medical insurance to someone who is pregnant. But I guess that's just Cali? Idk. Do they know you are expecting ?

I thought so too @Decemberbaby707 but I guess not. They said we make to much. I'm still trying to fight it. If I don't win best believe I will do my best to be sure every news and newspaper knows about it. South Carolina has soooooo many people who don't need Medicaid and abuse the system and they get Medicaid no problem.... but a pregnant woman is denied..... how does that make sense?

@WinchestertoPittsburgh my boyfriend was only on my application because I live with him. However when I called and talked to them they said it doesn't matter if we are married, boyfriend and girlfriend or just roommates they take all people in the household's income no matter what. Which puts us over because he is a EMT. it is complete crap.

UGH! I can't stand the privatized health insurance BS in this country. I had to wait until we got married to be able to get pregnant & now I'm 37 & stressing that I'm too old! We pay for it through Healthcare.gov, through the nose mind you to get half-way decent coverage. So while I'll take the affordable health care act, it's FAR from affordable! What is good is that you should be able to sign up for it since you are pregnant, I think that should qualify as a change in life, right? I hope so.  Since you aren't married they should only take your income into account & you can get coverage. It won't be free, but hey, it's not England, or even Cuba, and you'll have health care, which you need, NOW. And one good thing about the ACA, your pregnancy no longer counts as a pre-existing condition, so you can still sign up for it! I would also check out your local PP as well in the meantime as you might not have health care for a while still & you want to be getting in there ASAP. Good luck
  • I feel as if you need to find someone else to speak with on that matter. Roommates incomes should never be added to yours when applying for assistance.

Here is the link that describes what sources of income are included and excluded into applications for assistance. If you read down the list, it details how and why roommates payments towards shared expenses are NOT to be included in your application.

Find another welfare representative. Go down to the office yourself. If this were me, I wouldn't let up until I had something in writing stating that I was excluded and not just someone's verbal word. Insurance is a hot topic for me, if you can't tell, lol. Hope this helps!

  • My sister had private health insurance when she got pregnant and it didn't cover pregnancy (she had a temp job so they didn't offer insurance through her employer). She went through a midwife, sucked it up and paid for it on her own out of pocket on a payment plan. It was actually pretty affordable and a set rate. Check around and see if your hospitals have a midwife program.

  • I know I'm reading all of this late, but I was pretty shocked you couldn't get Medicaid because of a boyfriend/roommate income. Glad to see that you were finally approved and can now get regular prenatal care.
