I'm 20 weeks and just found out we are having a baby girl! We're so excited and have started to look at names. I love the name Aubrey but not sure about a middle name. Thinking of Aubrey Charlotte or or Aubrey Layne/ Laine Thoughts?
I'm real big on name meanings, so I know I want the name to translate to something that means something to our family. For your info:
The name Aubrey is a French baby name. In French the meaning of the name Aubrey is: Blond ruler, elf ruler. From the Old French Auberi, a form of the Old German Alberich meaning elf ruler.
The name Charlotte is a French baby name. In French the meaning of the name Charlotte is: A feminine form of Charles, meaning man or manly. Alternate meaning, tiny and feminine.
English Meaning:
The name Laine is an English baby name. In English the meaning of the name Laine is: From the long meadow.
Scottish Meaning:
The name Laine is a Scottish baby name. In Scottish the meaning of the name Laine is: Serves John.
So basically you have something like masculine elven ruler (or tiny elven ruler if you take the alternate meaning) or elven ruler from the long meadow or elven ruler who serves John. Not sure they're the meanings I'd choose, but that's the beauty of this - everyone has their own choices and gets to be unique and express themselves and their family.
I am not finding out the sex, so I am looking at both male and female names, only a little bit at 16 weeks, but thinking some conjugation of Aiden Ryuu for a boy, which means dragon fire - changes like Ryuutaro would be something like son of the big dragon, though I've seen it transalted as son of the fat dragon in some more recent posts by people or Ryuuichi would be first dragon or Ryuujin would be dragon god and specifically references a piece of mythology, but not one I particularly like. Aiden can be, in Irish form, Edan or Aodh or Aed, which is interesting because my husband is part Irish but I think the latter two would be too difficult for others to spell or pronounce. I don't worry about the middle name, which is recognition primarily of my husband's sensai, who is now passed but was a huge part of his life. That's how I do it, though, and I figure when I get something my husband and I like in both sound and meaning then we've got it.
Re: thoughts on this...
Fwiw I personally don't love Aubrey...i think Audrey is far prettier and more feminine. Charlotte is a nice name though.
