This is more of a PSA, not a question, just wanted to remind everyone to be careful and cautious when doing activities! I've been able to continue to be active throughout my pregnancy and had no issues so far, but yesterday I experienced firsthand that it's true what they say -- your center of gravity really does shift while pregnant.
I was out walking in my neighborhood last night, and my right foot twisted a little underneath me. I feel like anytime previously when something similar had happened, I'd been able to catch myself before falling, but yesterday I couldn't. I fell forward with all of my weight on my left knee, and it cut and bruised pretty badly. Very thankful I didn't fall on my belly, though!
I got back home and cleaned up the cut with hydrogen peroxide, and I elevated my feet and put ice on my knee. Felt the baby moving plenty during the time I was sitting there, so wasn't too worried, but called my after-hours nurses' line at my OB's office to be safe. She told me since I didn't fall on my belly, everything was probably fine (baby's protected by several things - amniotic fluid, etc.), but she told me 3 things to watch for, and if I saw/felt any of them to go straight to the hospital: six contractions (or feelings of cramping) within an hour; any vaginal bleeding, even just a spot; decreased fetal movement. She said most symptoms of a fall would show up within 24 hrs, so once I make it to the 24 hr mark this evening, I should be able to assume everything's ok.
Thankfully, I've had no contractions or vaginal bleeding, and baby's still moving consistently, so I'm hoping there was no damage done, other than to my knee. I'm sore and limping around this morning!
Up until last night, my body (though much larger) had felt mostly the same while pregnant and I'd continued to do a lot of my regular activities. Definitely plan to be more cautious for the next few weeks! Although I am hoping my knee will heal and I can get back to walking comfortably soon.
