Shower invites and timing

I have to have my shower pretty early due to traveling circumstances.  My Mom is throwing it for me but is super stressed out and has asked me to take care of the invitations.  The shower will be on June 13th.  When should I have the invitations out by and how long should I give them to RSVP?  My Mom said she at least wants to know a count a week or so before the shower.  Just wasn't sure what protocol was.  Thanks!

Re: Shower invites and timing

  • I'd send them out at least a month in advance, personally I'm sending mine out 6 weeks in advance.

  • I was planning on using Shutterfly, so I need to order them very soon.  I have my 20 week scan this Friday, so I wanted to wait to use that picture on the invites, but that might be cutting it close.

When I planned my cousin's shower I believe I sent them out about 4-5 weeks in advance and had the RSVP set about 7-10 days before the shower so I could order the right amount of food and what not!

I was going to say 3 weeks or more before. Local mail should only take 1-2 days to get to people. First Class from one coast to the other is an average of 3-4 days. So three weeks seems like ample time for people to get it on their calendars without being too far in advance.

My shower is on June 27 and we're mailing invites out by May 16, then asking people to RSVP two weeks before the shower. We also sent out a "save the date" event invite on Facebook. Since it's summer, people's schedules fill up fast, so the earlier the better in my opinion!

My shower is June 27th too and I agree! My MIL is doing invites and it's mostly her family so I think she knows best. She's sending invites out on May 9th because summer schedules do fill up so quickly and we want to make sure everyone can be there.
  • My shower that's June 27th i plan to send them out by like may 15th at the latest with rsvp by the 20th. I have another shower out of state June 5th and my mil wasnt planning to mail them until may 16th and i kind of freaked bc i thought it was waaay too late so she's mailing them may 8th (which i still think is late) 4-6 weeks is the norm i think esp with crazy summer schedules, weddings and graduation parties

My shower is next weekend, we sent out invites with about 5 weeks of notice and didn't give an RSVP by date, just asked that people RSVP. I've heard from just about everyone and it all worked out great
  • Sending my invites out end of May and they have too rsvp by July 1st and the shower is August 8th
  • I would send them out soon but you can prob order them Friday after your ultrasound so you can use then pics and ask for the RSVP at least 2 weeks before the shower. This way you can hunt people down for RSVPs. I would also pick the invitations out before hand so all you have to do is add the picture! I love party planning!
  • Can you send a save the date email first? If you are waiting until Friday to order them, and then you have to give Shutterfly time to process and ship your order, and then mail them out you won't be able to allow people much time to receive them and RSVP... I think this is a pretty busy time with graduation invites etc. too, so Shutterfly might take longer than normal.
