TTC after 35

CD34. Late Period. BFN. +OPK TODAY!?

I have not been temping, but I have been keeping track of my menses, spotting, CM, etc., on Fertility Friend.  According to FF, my fertile days were on the 13th, 14th, and 15th of April.  Expected period was suppose to happen a few days ago.  Instead, I have been having lots of ewcm!?   I have a ClearBlue Advanced digital ovulation kit and just took it ... and it shows a smiley face indicating peak fertility!  If my period is already due, but If I conceive right now... then how will the egg even have enough time for implantation?  Is it possible to schedule an emergency appointment with my obgyn and possibly have them prescribe some progesterone to lengthen my luteal phase?  Or is this already a lost cause?  So confused.  We have been trying for 2 years now and this is the first time this has happened to me.  I am hoping I still have a chance this cycle.  Has anyone had this happen to them?

Oh I forgot to mention that my cycles range from around 34 to 45 days.... but I have only had a 45 day cycle once and that was over a year ago.

You get your period 12-16 days after ovulation (usually), so if you ovulate today, your period should arrive in about two weeks. Lots of things can delay ovulation, and a "missed"/late period generally just means that ovulation happened later than normal. No need to worry. Good luck!
  • So, as @FemShep said, you should get your period in about two weeks, so you do still have a chance this month if you had sex with your husband at the right time.  Anyone can randomly have a long cycle.  If you had a positive OPK today, your cycle will probably be closer to that 45 day mark you had last year.  Temping could REALLY help you pinpoint these types of situations.  It would help you figure out how long your luteal phase is.  When I was TTC before, I consistently had a 13 day LP.  So, when I had a 56 day cycle, once I got that temp shift, I knew to expect my period 13 days later.  My old OBGYN didn't believe in charting (I'm no longer seeing her) and insisted on giving me a prescription for Provera because she didn't think my period would come.  I just took the prescription and nodded, but didn't fill it.  Temping can tell you so much about what's going on in your body.

    Good luck!!

  • Thanks so much! I began tempting yesterday. This way, in case I don't conceive this month, I will already have several temps logged. I didn't know late ovulation will extend your period due date! Yay! I have renewed hope! Thank You!!!
  • Temping has changed my life forever. My only regret is not starting it sooner (I only started after my second m/c in November). I have irregular periods as well (oddly, between 34-45 days like you!) and used to keep wondering when I was ovulating and if I was pregnant or what was going on. Now I can keep a good record of when I ovulate late or not at all (which happens frequently). And yes, knowing your luteal phase is super helpful (although mine has fluctuated between 12-16 days). Lots of women on here use the site Fertility Friend and I just started using it last cycle and LOVE IT! They also send you little lessons via email about ttc, temping, etc. It's great. Good luck!!
