Fragile cervix?

Hi Ladies, just me AGAIN lol.

So little background. the last 3 days i have notice very little--like a few drops the size of a pin head--here there of light pink in my discharge on my underwear; never when I wipe. It was so small that i almost didnt notice it. So i was like OK well maybe its nothing---i spotted after my 6week digital exam to confirm pregnancy for a few days as well.

Last night i was getting this intermittent ache in my lower left pubic area--- not a cramping sensation or anything like that and not a sharp pain. Just an annoying ache like a gas pain almost -- thats probably as comparable as i can think of.

Anyways, i called my DRs office to ask about it-- and the nurse was like "Oh you have to be seen right away and get checked out, come right now". So i pretty much almost have a heart attack.

Flash forward visually cervix looked fine, when my midwife swabbed and then digital check, it felt fine and closed but started to bleed almost instantaneously-- not alot, but definitely more than i was seeing--and bright red.  Then they had me get an US to check the cervical length and the baby--- happy moving little girl with 135 bpm Hr with hair starting to grow :) and a cervical length of 4.8 cm (so ladies i have some to share bc ideal length is 2.5 and longer lol).  Bottom line everything looks good and measures perfectly, but my cervix is sensitive to irritation or "fragile"  and i am only bleeding from the outside cervix near the vagina. So, i could potentially spot off an on through pregnancy, especially if going through hormone surges etc...

Dr gave me my Rho-gram shot just to be safe in case the 0.0001 percent chance there is any placental bleeding etc... but she said its unlikely.

I did not do anything out of the ordinary and did not have sex, so i don't know what could have aggravated it. I did have my first mini braxton hicks contraction yesterday --atleast thats what they tell me it was, bc i just thought my belly felt tighter than normal lol.  IM laying off the exercise till the spotting stops, even though DR didnt restrict me from anything-- i just dont like the idea of spotting lol

SOOO... do any of you ladies have this or have had experience with this???

Re: Fragile cervix?

  • Omg yes! I call it my wimpy cervix lol. A lot like you, I had spotting when i went to the bathroom, enough to go into the toilet though and it was bright red. Call the doc, go to L&D, baby is great, cervix is great, and they have no idea. I, like you, did nothing different or strenuous.

This happened three different times last week. Got put on pelvic and bed rest but thankfully I'm allowed to go back to work now. (I suck at bed rest) Basically my Dr. and I reached an agreement that as long as nothing gets worse I can continue working. Some women just bleed for no reason lol (reassuring right?!?)

I actually haven't bled at all in two days so that's been nice. At my next Dr. appt they are doing an internal exam just to look around i guess and see if theres anything odd.

I'm just taking it one day at a time. Hopefully the bleeding stays away and I can get back to my walks. It can be scary but hang in there. :)

  • I had this at the beginning of pregnancy. Had rhogam at 5.5 weeks. Will get another shot in two weeks. But it helped! I had one spot at 12 weeks and have been good since then. When I spotted at 5.5 weeks they said I had a bruised cervix so to keep an eye on it.

Hopefully the shot helps you too!!
  • Not to freak you out or anything but I also had what my doctor called a "sensitive cervix" for years. I'd bleed after sex, I'd bleed after a pap, I'd bleed if foreplay was rough". Only had one abnormal pap (2010) but I also had bv at the time due to switching laudry soaps and was allergic (what my OB figured), treated that and had my biopsy just to see what the cells were doing, they returned normal. I had normal paps from there on out til 2013.
    I had a normal pregnancy in 2012.
I went in 2013 and got my results as abnormal so 6 weeks later had my biopsy done, results were precancerous changes, unspecified reasons. I talked it over with the hubs, and we decided to be proactive and have a LEEP done to remove the bad cells before they could change (even though it could be years before they did. We felt better not having to worry). I had the LEEP done a week later. At my 6 week post op, my pathology results showed the cells had changed again (aggressive and rapidly) and were cancerous!! Luckily I had clear margins!!! I have been cancer free for almost 18 months. However since the procedure, my "sensitive" cervix has no longer been an issue. So please keep up with your paps! My doctor said that sometimes pregnancy can fuel cell changes in cases like that (however I do believe the IUD I had caused it. But we can't say 100%). Please keep it in mind either way. Now you could bleed more easily during pregnancy as well, but i feel like I need to warn everyone when they mention about bleeding so easy. :)
  • I had to go to L&D for tests and observation last weekend for spotting. Turns out I had a bacterial infection. Antibiotics and pelvic rest for five days and I'm all good now. Did they speak to you about that possibility? My OB told me infection causes spotting even in tiny amounts. Mine was dime size maybe 6 times over a 36 hour time frame. Good luck!!
  • @bhargrave88 def worth keeping an eye on. ive never really had anything with my cervix previously and get paps every year with nothing abnormal. But I'll keep an eye out, alot of my GFS have had LRRPS bc of abnormal cells, I'm like the only one thata ever had a clean bill of health.

@kcollins78 she didn't say anything about infection because during thr visual exam my cervix looked normal with no signs of irritation or bleeding. It wasn't until she put pressure with the qutip think and digitally checked did it bleed (nothing crazy like clots or heavy menstrual like bleeding, bbut like a nosebleed) And stopped after she stopped aggrivating it. Ultrasound, visual and digital exams showed all normal with no signs of abnormality etc. They did send a swab for testing so I am sure if Soemthing is up with an infection or anything else I'll hear.

pretty much done spotting after thr exam yesterday and spotted brownish more from that then I ever have noticed since being pregnant.

I'm just resting and taking it easy. But I definitely freaked out before getting checked and them telling me everything is normal.

Ps rhogram shot in the arm... OUCH lol
  • In the arm? Mine are always in the butt! lol at least you have that going for you :}
