37 weeks measuring large..anyone else ?

i had my doctor appointment today and I'm measuring a little large for the week I am. So I have a ultrasound scheduled for tomorrow morning to check on the baby's size. Has anyone else experienced this and how did it play out? I'm just curious if he is large will they induce me early or will they do a c-section? I'm a first time mom

  • I'm a ftm with twins- 33 weeks but my belly measures 41 weeks. However babies are still tiny! Only like 4 lbs each probably soooo I'm curious how big my belly will measure when I'm full term

  • I was measuring 40 at 36 weeks and his shoulders and head REALLY big too. Therefore I am in the midst of being induced today at 39 +3 days. However, I'm a 4th time mom and had to be induced with all of my prior babies.

So did they induce you early due to the baby's size?
  • Yes and the fact I'm 41 and the placenta ages more quickly. At this point I believe I'm just missing the trigger that makes bodies go into labor! The minute I get any pitocin contractions get going nice and regular. We like to say I have such a hospitable uterus the babies never want to leave. :)

It depends on OB - my baby is measuring large for size too, I'm 37wks and have one last ultra sound on Monday to see just HOW big. But my OB said she doesn't induce for big baby, only for little baby bc it means placenta isn't working as well anymore and baby needs to come out. Big babies are happy babies and like to stay in for a while she said. If he's too big I may have to have repeat c sec, I hope not I rly want to do VBAC!!!!

This is now the second time happening to me. But I do have GD. The first time was induced a week early. This time (different practice) said they won't induce, but go straight to c section. This one is predicted much bigger as well.
I have another ultrasound tomorrow and then straight to c section is MFM agrees with the prediction. We will see.
    1st baby was 7 lbs. 5 oz.

I wouldn't worry to much. I have been measuring 2-3 weeks since I was 7 months pregnant. Being larger could mean a lot of things (so I'm told) for example you have more amniotic fluid than average, more fat than average or a bigger baby, etc.

I'm 37 weeks today and my baby was estimated to be a little over 7lbs at 34 weeks. I have an ultrasound next week to check if he is still super big and if he is, my doctor has offered to induce me at 39 weeks. She has offered though but I don't have to agree. Even if it's a big baby, they will try to get you to deliver vaginally. Everyone's induction story is different though. Good luck with everything!
  • I was measuring 38 at 34 weeks. I had the growth ultrasound and it turned out that it was just baby's position that was making my belly measure large and not the actual baby. Baby was estimated at 6lb11oz at 34.6 - perfectly normal.

There are plenty of things that can throw off the fundal height measurements. I wouldn't worry unless the baby is seriously huge in the ultrasound - and even then, I would only really worry if baby has an abnormally large head or shoulder width.

Go 40 weeks unless it's medically impossible....babies are meant to be in there for that long....it's amazing what your body is capable of left it do its job before interfering medically.

I'm 35 weeks and measured at 39 but did an ultrasound and baby is estimated at 5 lbs and fluid levels look good.
  • At my 34 week appt i was measuring at 36 weeks. I go back this next week and doc said if I measure 3 weeks ahead he possibly will do a growth ultrasound.

  • I've been measuring big the whole time. At my 30 week ultrasound, baby was measuring 3 weeks ahead. All the doctor has said is "looks like your growing another big baby" (my first was 9lbs5oz when I had him at 39 weeks). There has been no talk about induction or c-section and I'm planning to deliver at home.
