2nd Trimester

Advice needed, 17 weeks and contractions/cramping for over a week!

So im really frusturated now. I am 17 weeks along last week i started to have contractions/cramping that was painful. Called my mw she had me go ij and get checked. The mw is in a bigger town 45 min away so i went into the rural smal town hospital. They did blood/urine tests and and u/s. All said were normal and cervix is long. So they had no idea what to tell me. I hate calling te mw bc they seem like they think im making it up or over reacting. This is baby #4 so i know what contraction pain is. Any ideas what is going on and what i should do. They didn't check my cervix, or monitor for contractions or anything. Blood/urine, 2 min u/s and sent me home with Tylenol. This is my 4th so I know what contractions feel like ya know?

  • Always call your MW if your having concerns. Drive the 45 min if you need to its your babies life for gosh sakes. You say you know what contractions are. no one this bored can tell you if you are or are not. If you are not happy the care form your midwife. Switch

  • Could have been braxton hicks honey. Those feel like the real thing, they just don't really dilate your cervix like real labor contractions. With my first pregnancy which was five years ago, i was in l&d every week from 18 weeks to 35 weeks with false labor. They stopped my Braxton hicks everytime with tributaline. Keep in mind this is my fifth pregnancy. But only my second viable one lost all my other 3 at 10 weeks. Hope all is well.
  • I had this around 17 - 18 weeks. My MW gave me antibiotics for a UTI. I went to see a dr a week later, because I'd finished the antibiotics but still had the cramping/contractions so wanted to check if there was still a UTI.

He tested my urine and said it suggested there were blood cells, but when he rang to get my previous results from the lab it turned out that that sample only showed blood cells and not an actual developed UTI.

I had also developed thrust with the antibiotics. He mentioned thrush could also cause the cramping and contractions.

Now that the thrush is cleared up, everything is fine. I wonder if perhaps I had mild thrush that I hadn't identified from the very beginning.

Have you had your vagina swabbed for any infections?
