Maternity Leave in NJ

First, my apologies if there is already a discussion on this somewhere.

Does anyone here live in NJ? I'm so overwhelmed trying to figure out maternity leave. HR tells me one thing and I hear other things from everyone else. Here's what I was told. Does this make sense??

16-18 weeks total.
4-6 weeks for NJ family leave
12 weeks for FMLA

But now I'm hearing it's really 6-8 weeks for NJ leave?? I,don't want to get screwed out of time.

Help!

In NY it's only 6 weeks unless your company offers something better...

  • I'm from NJ and it is very confusing!! Im going through it now for workbut completed it 2.5 yrs ago with my son. here is how u remember it: I got FMLA for 12 weeks through work which was considered "unpaid" and really just secured my job. The state pays out your Short Term Disability. That is only for 6-8 weeks depending on how you deliver. Then I took the last 4 weeks (I had a c-section) as paid vacation time but if I didn't have the vacation it would have been unpaid. It's very confusing and it takes a while before the state actually starts to pay anything!

Ahh ok so technically it is 6-8! I have to talk to HR again and mention that. They are making me use 2 weeks PTO, but that shouldn't deduct time from the 6-8. Ugh I hate this process. Thanks for the info!
