Breech Baby at 38 Weeks-c section or other options?

I had a dr appointment today. I was still only 2 cm dilated but baby moved into breech position. I have a bicornuate uterus and the dr advised it is now too late to turn her and my only option is c section unless she miraculously moves back to head down which is unlikely due to lack of space. Anyone ever had this before or know of other options? I was really hoping not to have a c section.

  • Prayers to you and baby! Here's hoping she decides to turn. I don't really have any advice other than, I've had two previous cesareans and another scheduled for tomorrow...and it's really not so bad. Whatever is best for you and the baby. Recovery time is longer and more uncomfortable but it's all worth it in the end. My guy, is transverse (a first for me) and I'm pretty anxious to see if that makes it more difficult to get him out. Good luck to you and I'll be thinking about you!

  • Sorry, no advice for you on this either. But I have had a c-section and it wasn't planned with my first. It was a shock and was not my original birth plan but things change. It was not that bad. I have a planned c-section with this baby. I will keep both you and baby in my thoughts and prayers. Best of luck.
  • Thank you for the prayers! I'm still kind of hoping she'll turn but preparing myself in case. I'm sad that I won't be able to have the more intimate moments of natural birth but as long as she is safe and healthy. I can't wait to meet her.
  • I would ask your doctor again because I am 38 weeks, 4 days and my baby is breech as of yesterday's appointment but our doctor scheduled us for a version next Tuesday, when I'll be 39 weeks and 3 days. So, depending on your size and the size of the baby, it might still be an option to try. We do know that if it's not successful, we'll be having a c-section that day, but like you, I had my heart set on a vaginal birth and have tried every other option in the book to get the baby to move on it's own. So, if I can do it, maybe you can too? Doesn't hurt to ask again!
  • I don't have any advice but good luck! C sections aren't that bad really!
  • What a bummer =( I don't have any good advice at this point but to hope, like your doctor said the odds of baby turning this late (esp a first baby) are unfortunately pretty low. The first of many moments to come that really are out of your hands.

  • I think the only other option would be finding a doctor that would deliver a breech baby, if that is possible. Many doctors won't do it for a plethora of reasons.

I'm in the same boat but mine has pretty much been breech the entire time.

I'm scheduled for a C-section and really not happy about it but I don't really have other options.

Maybe the babies will turn on their own.

You can try stuff at home to flip, like things at spinningbabies.com, moxibustion, put frozen veggies on babies head, luke warm shallow bath, playing music down there, etc.

  • I'm 39 weeks today . Baby has been transverse for 6 weeks . They scheduled a section for today . Pack my bags get to hospital on the way there I felt my whole stomach flip . He moved head down . They sent me home to ho into labor myself . Kinda bitter sweet as I thought i would be returning with him . Guess he'll come in his own time !!!
  • So crazy update. They weren't able to do an ultrasound yesterday to confirm she was breech so we went in again today to confirm before the c section next week and she is head down! I'm so happy. Should I be concerned that the dr was so convinced she was breech? It seems like a big mistake. I'm ftm so being cautious.
