Flintstone Vitamins

I am currently taking gummy prenatals and I know they don't have iron, I have an issue swallowing pills so I was wondering if the Flintstone vitamins with iron will suffice? I am currently waiting for the call back from my doctor with this answer but I was wondering what you guys think.

Re: Flintstone Vitamins

  • I can't comment about all of the nutrients in them, but I know the folic acid content is at the minimum that is recommended (400 mcg). I think the standard is at least 600 mcg from month 4 to 9, but I don't know if your doctor will say 400 is enough?  The multivitamin I take has 1000 mcg, but I need more folic acid than a typical pregnancy so I don't think I'm a good one to compare to.

On another note, flinstones vitamins make me feel nostalgic. I loved those things as a kid.

Hope you're able to find something that works for you. :)

  • @millette2015 I've heard that you can take 2 flinstone vitamins to get the required folic acid, I have friends who have taken them every pregnancy and they haven't had any issues I just want to be sure.
  • @twogirlsandagreen the complete flinstone vitamins right?
  • My dr told me that if i couldn't get prenatals down to take Flintstones :)
So far I'm okay taking them but I'm sure it's fine.
  • Thank you guys!
  • 400 mcg of folic acid is the recommended amount. Most prenatals have 800 mcg. The recommended time frame for folic acid is one month before conception through the first trimester. If you have a history of neural tube defects or take certain medications it is recommended that you take 4000 mcg for the same time frame.

Flintstones are just fine! Remember that you get these nutrients from food too!!
