Birthing Center: anyone btdt?

Looks like there was a post about this from February with not much of a response so thought I'd try it again.

Long story short: the hospital I will be delivering at has an amazing birthing center that I'm considering. My midwife is like "you can totally do it!" but she may be a little biased...
My two big hang ups are:
1. no drugs (I think I can do it, I just have to decide if I want to)
2. I'd have to go to the doctors 24 hrs after baby is born for PKU test. Having the baby, leaving the birth center then going back to the doctors within like 30 hours is a little intimidating to me.

Anyone given birth at a birthing center? Any insight or additional things I'm not considering? I know there's time to decide but I'm kind of a prepper.

    Put off the test until later. I heard it's more accurate closer to two weeks anyway, but I'm putting off most of those procedures.
    It could be an outing for Dad to handle while you sleep in or get a massage?

    I'm pretty sure my midwife does the PKU test at the birthing center, I can't remember if it's at the 3 day or 2 week visit, but she said vaccines and all that happens at the pediatrician's office.

    I like the idea of a massage. :) The PKU test has been done after the baby has been born for 24 hours, but i didn't think it could be longer than that, will add it to my list of questions!

    You don't have to have it at all of you don't want (in OR & WA anyway). Can you not stay for the full 24hrs after birth? Here my insurance covers 48hrs for vaginal delivery hospital or birth center...

    Had my second at a birthing center. Nice atmosphere. .. no drugs ... 9 pound baby! Loved my midwives and was home 6 hours after delivery. If I could take a shower I could go home. Had to go to the pediatricIan the next day.. did not find it to be too big a deal.. it's been 21 years though.....
