Trying to Get Pregnant

essential oils and ttc?

Hi ladies I was hopeing some of you have had experience and advice with using essintial oils and TTC. I have been doing lots of reading about what oils to use but Im having a difficult time knowing which oils whould be the best to start with. I also want to find a good brand of oils Amazon has tons but other than Amazon I have no idea where to look for the oils to buy.
Thanks for any help :)
Sincerely jennifer

Re: essential oils and ttc?

  • I don't have any experience with using essential oils while TTC (we currently aren't trying), but I wouldn't advise buying oils from Amazon. Young Living Essential Oils is an extremely reputable company that I get all my essential oils from. You can sign up to get wholesale pricing also.

I know, it can definitely be overwhelming! If you have any other questions, I can try to help you out :)
  • Hmm interesting. I've never heard of using essential oils for TTC. I would use caution if you are applying them topically and do lots of research. I went to aesthetics school back in the day (i don't do it anymore) and we were taught not to use essential oils on pregnant women. I realize your not pregnant yet but I would err on the side of caution later in your cycle. But thats just me! good luck!

  • I personally don't use essential oils or know anything about them, I'm a natural skeptic in life. But I have seen women on other boards say to avoid lavender when pregnant. I know you're still TTC but it's worth looking into.
  • Is there a reason why you need them?
  • FrancesGrace630 said. Not all essential oils are created equal and using cheaper, knock off brands can actually cause more harm than good. I would strictly stick with Young Living.

I put frankincense on my belly during my last pregnancy for stretch marks. I used it after my first pregnancy to help reduce them, so I used them during the second one and noticed a difference. I also used peppermint oil to help with nausea.

To the OP, no experience with them during TTC specifically for aiding TTC, though I was using them generally when I got pregnant last time. As PP said, Young Living is a reputable site for oils. I'd get them there before Amazon. I've got a book at home about different uses for oils, so I'll look tonight and see if it says anything for TTC.
  • I use Mountain Rose Herbs to buy my essential oils. Native American Nutritionals is also good but more expensive. Young Living & DoTerra are great brands but very expensive because of how they're set up (like a pyramid with all the different reps). I've done A LOT of EO research from reputable sources & aromatherapists who have no connection to one specific brand.

I personally do not take any brand of EO internally or put undiluted on the skin.

The blog below is just one of many resources I use. I love her! She's getting/has gotten her master aromatherapy license.

  • I use doTerra essential oils for pretty much everything. That being said I haven't found any research that promotes essential oils for fertility. I think you can use them to help with some of the anxiety and symptoms of early pregnancy/PMS I use a calming blend and velviter every night before bed or even during the day if I am feeling stressed out or anxious. I am not saying that calming down will help you conceive any faster because that is not true but I know that I get kind of anxious especially during my TWW and these help me relax a bit. I also use essential oils for nausea, acne, indigestion, allergies and just to smell pretty.

I'm a nurse and was pretty skeptical of the whole essential oil thing but have found a lot of scientific research about their efficacy.

  • I am just getting into essential oils. DoTerra oils are highly reputable as well and there is a Facebook page that many men and women share their mixes and ask questions in what oils to use and when. There's many questions about using while pregnant too.

I use Neal's Yard Remedies because they're organic and absolutely top of the line quality (and I get wholesale pricing). I like EO because synthetic fragrances really bother my asthma and skin. I add them to laundry, a "scentsy" pot, a bath-- all sorts of things-- but don't use them for any specific health reason.

  • Just checked the book I have. Nothing specifically listed for TTC, though in the pregnancy section it says they can be used then. Just lists lemon, lavender, and gentle baby, though.
  • I will also recommend the Young Living.... I've tried other brands but that is by far my favorite. My mom decided to sell them because she loves them too.... Anytime I need any I use her discount :)
Maybe you could try the Joy formulation?

I'm pretty big on Essential Oils, I mainly use Young Living. There are some oils that are supposed to help with balancing hormones and menstrual cycles. Not sure if they work or not, but supposedly Geranium, Clary Sage, Sweet Fennel, Rose Otto and a few others are supposed to be good. They recommend not using them after you ovulate though (when TTC). I haven't actually used them though. I have also found that some help with relaxing which may help while TTC as well! I use Stress Away a lot when I get really stressed out.

Do any of you diffuse essential oils?  I have a diffuser but haven't bought any oils yet and this thread has made me think about it again.  Maybe diffusing oils while TTC could be on the safer side than applying them topically?

I diffuse oils, but I had to stop diffusing my Thieves blend after ovulation because it has Eucalyptus in it. It is definitely on the safer side but there are still oils you shouldn't breath in while pregnant.

    Edit: words hard

  • I pretty much only diffuse my oils. I rarely use them on my skin and I never ingest them, even though YL says theirs can be ingested. I just opt not to personally. But definitely research the oil you are using if you are actively TTC or are pregnant to make sure it's safe for use. Some are, but a good amount aren't !
  • ^^^ I agree on not ingesting them. To each their own, though!
