Exercise

is anyone changing up their exercise routine? I know we are all exhausted, but if you are doing something has it changed?
I feel worried when doing twisty crunches or anything in yoga (and I'm a full time yoga teacher) even though I know it's probably all okay. Anyone with me?

Re: Exercise

  • I've modified my workouts but mainly only because I'm so tired all the time and therefore my heartrate goes up a lot faster (it seems). I do weight training three times a week and dropped my weights to about 50%. Certain exercises I feel like I can still do heavier and I do but most I'm doing at about half capacity right now! I'm also still doing my cardio but I'm finding my distances, endurance, and speed (mostly treadmill and elliptical) are going down. I just can't do as much with how tired I am.

I'm not concerned about any of the activities themselves doing any damage or being dangerous (had a great long talk with my trainer about all of this) so it's more about me just making sure I'm not pushing myself too hard.

  • @CMDD i just bought a yoga Groupon the week before I found out, and it's going to expire if i don't use it soon but I read yoga could be bad for first trimester, esp if you aren't used to it. Is that true? waaaaahhh I want to yoga so bad! It's been 6+ months since I have

I mainly run/walk with my pooch 2x per day, a few miles each time. I do some strength training also, but going to modify the weight not to "max" out and go about 50% like you said. No crunches or ab work either.
  • Pretty much what @kyleneum13 said. I've had to modify bc I feel like I get out of breath so fast and need to drop my hr. And I'm having a hard time with tightening. Sounds weird but like I can't keep my dang abs tight. So I have to slow down and watch my form.
  • I usually do cardio and strength training but after doing half my workout yesterday I was so fatigued that I left the gym. Maybe I will take it easy for a bit and just try to walk every day.
  • Well I was doing a ton til I got placed on bed rest. Hopefully tomorrow I can get cleared to at least walk.

Yoga is fine just don't do hot yoga!

@grkgdss00 while the baby is settling in, the first trimester, it's said that it's best not to invert. Later on, when the bump is bigger you won't lie on your belly on on your back to long, and when you're twisting in class just twist away from the belly instead of into it (create space!). Also, restorative yoga and prenatal yoga are ahhhhmaaaazing.
  • I just bought a dang treadmill. I'm hoping to get my energy back as soon as this nausea goes away! I was doing P90X3 but my doctor advised against it until after 12 weeks... So walking it is!
Good luck with working out everyone!! My last pregnancy I did nothing... And gained a million pounds. I lost most of it but... I don't want to do that again!
  • @CMDD i definitely plan to participate in prenatal starting in the 2nd trimester! Can't wait, and thanks for your info!
  • Yay I was told I can walk and maybe after next appt I can be cleared for belly dancing. I have been belly dancing for many years and I'm going through withdrawals lol

I bet belly dancing is such a good workout!
  • I lost 60 pounds doing it lol I love it and its okay and healthy to do while pg also. I just have to make sure this bleed goes away completely first.
  • So long as you don't have any bleeding or other complications there aren't any exercises that you can't do. We are pregnant ladies not broken! Old wives tales are what tell us not to raise arms above the head or invert.

(I'm a personal trainer not a doctor so if your doctor advises against something listen to them, but if you think it sounds antiquated you can always get s second opinion-not all doctors are up to date on exercise practices... )

Mine hates to exercise so she thinks I'm a little crazy- she's a friend so she lets me know but doesn't restrict anything and so long as there is no bleeding, cramping, or pain as a result she trusts my experience to do what I am capable of at each stage of my pregnancy.
