can a fake pregnancy give you positive HPTs?

I kind of scared myself a little bit because I read online that believing you are pregnant will cause you to have symptoms and even a positive pregnancy test. This is my first pregnancy, and I'm not sure if I even believe that I'm pregnant yet... I took two Clearblue tests and both were positive, but I just don't know yet. I called my doctor and I'm going in for a lab test on Monday, but it's still 5 days away. I can't even stand it.

    I have heard you can make yourself have pregnancy symptoms but I don't think you would get a postivie test

    Like a hysterical pregnancy? I don't know for sure, but.. I doubt it.

    Pregnancy tests give you a positive based on detecting hcg, the pregnancy hormone in your system. Tests vary from 6mcg and higher.
    I doubt, though it's possible, your body could produce a hormone from a hysterical pregnancy, but like I said.. It may be possible. Hysterical pregnancies are uncommon, I believe, and it's more complicated than just thinking you're pregnant. Take a deep breath! Keep us updated.

    Oh, Mama...believe it! You are pregnant. Two tests say so. The tests are designed to react to hCG- a pregnancy hormone. You are preggers, have started producing the hormone, you POAS, and that stick says you're pregnant. You are pregnant today. Congratulations!!

    Isn't it crazy? I had a friend go through a hysterical pregnancy.. She was very mentally ill and it was hard to watch.

    You can't get a positive pregnancy test without a certain level of HCG hormones in your blood. So today you're pregnant. I had a positive pregnancy test in February and then a negative test a week later but I experienced a chemical pregnancy which means by body started being pregnant but then something happened and the fetus never fully developed so the pregnancy was abandoned. But I was still pregnant even if it was for one week. Try not to worry. If it says you're preggers, you're preggers. Congrats!

    @beccachartier I can imagine that would be hard to watch! Did she "give birth?" I don't mean to be insensitive, but I am really confused and I don't understand how it would end? Can you have a hysterical pregnancy without being mentally ill?

    As far as I know, she did not "give birth", and she was taken for help before she was "due". She didn't even have periods.. It was intense. Everyone except her knew it was hysterical. It's possible therapy and medication snapped get out of it, or maybe they lied and told her she lost the baby.. I'm not sure. It's been a few years since I've talked to anyone around her.

    I'm not sure about hysterical pregnancy without mental illness.. It just seems like an illness thing to me, but I never really did the research. So hard to watch.

    @beccachartier Wow! I'm so sorry that you had to go through that. I'm so sorry that she had to go through that, but grateful that she got the help that she needed. Oh my goodness… This is just proof that you learn something new every day.
