Nesting hasn't hit yet. Is that normal?

Im 34 wks. I have been tired in every trimester and my work(massage therapy) has worn me out. I've never felt the urge to nest. Actually, the thought of cleaning and organizing my house stresses me out. Is there some nesting pregnancy fairy out there that needs to pay a visit to my home? ☺ or am I just one of those that isn't a nester?

Re: Nesting hasn't hit yet. Is that normal?

  • Eh, I'm kind of the same way. I have some time right now to get things done so I'm forcing myself to do it. But it's definitely not an instinct thing for me.

I think nesting is like pretty much every other "normal" pregnancy symptom - you might get it, you might not. I wouldn't worry about it, especially since it's not in any way related to your baby's health and development.

  • I'm pregnant with #3, and I've never had the urge to nest. The thought of cleaning/organizing makes me exhausted just thinking about it. You're fine OP, I wouldn't worry about it. ;)
  • I didn't have it last pregnancy bc I was too tired and sore. I do have it this time around but nothing crazy. It may just be my normal purge everything Spring Cleaning.
  • Hahahaha I wish the symptom was being lazy.. Cos that's as close to nesting as I am getting.. This whole idea of washing babies clothes? Ergh how is that fun? It sounds as fun as washing DH & my washing. Which isn't fun at all.
  • A week ago today I got a bug up my ass about cleaning, dusting, mad vacuuming my living room, so I did it. But I think that was more just the place was trashed and I was tired of it. Generally I'm too tired to go on cleaning expeditions. And I've felt like crap since Thursday of last week anyway. Eh, whatever. I have some things I want to do and plan on doing a small bit of it at a time, definitely no urges to do it all this very second

  • I'm nesting at work but then wayyyyyyyy too tired to do it at home. I wouldn't worry about it. I honestly think it stems from boredom sometimes.
  • @Westypet those are serious nesting urges!  Whenever I have dreams about cleaning things it's always stressful because I think about how much there is to do!  I finally went through old clothes and papers over the last couple of weeks and got rid of a lot of both.  I think that's about as nesting as I'm going to get.  I cut the tags off of DS's clothing but it's still sitting in the basket waiting for me to throw it in the washing machine....

Cut yourself some slack... you've got this. Give yourself a manageable task to do every day so that you feel accomplished.

Don't let yourself get overwhelmed by your master list of to-dos! You've got time.
  • i dont feel the nesting urge either. im too exhausted. hopefully i start to feel it once im done work in 2 weeks and actually have time /energy to do stuff. but luckily MH has been doing a lot of tidying.
  • I'm surprised I'm not more into nesting stuff because of my OCD tendencies. I did some with DD, but at this point with this LO, I'm nesting in my mind and making a list of what I want/need done when my sisters and mom come around birth time...does that count?!
  • Why is it that I only get the nesting urge when I'm in the middle of work and obviously can't clean. Then as soon as I get home all motivation goes out the window.

I'm like that with the gym. All for it during work, then I get home and I'm like NOPE

  • I have no interest in cleaning. Very jealous of all you nesting ladies!
  • Nope, no nesting yet here and I'm at 35 weeks. Bring it on - I could use some motivation!

He settles her in her home as a happy mother of children, praise the Lord! (Psalms 113:9)
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understand, will guard your heart and mind in Jesus Christ (Philippians 4:7)

  • I went through it during the 2nd trimester and now it's over. My parents are coming in a couple weeks to watch our kid while we go out of town and my mom asked what I need help with. I told her to feel free to wash all the baby clothes and linens and put the swing together so I'm hoping to get out of the last leg of cleaning
  • I got it on Sunday and couldn't stop dh had to finally say I think you should rest now. Oh did I hurt so bad from doing way more than my body has done in so long. I barely could walk Mon or Tues . Just be glad it hasn't hit, it hurts :-)

Ugh I got sooo bored cutting tags off of baby clothes. No one can find that fun. And now I have to wash them? Blah! Sounds like a problem for Future HooDoll82! (tm "The Simpsons")

This is going to make me sound super weird but I washed all our NB and 0-3 clothes while we were at my parents' house this weekend (yay free laundry!) and my mom and I actually had so much fun going through them again and gushing over each piece of clothing. Yeah... you can definitely tell that this is our first kid/grandkid lol

I can't wait for future Hoodoll82 to start cursing out Past Hoodoll82 :)

  • I love washing baby clothes and got it into my head to organize all the closet and storage areas about 2 months ago. Now at least 50% of them need to be done again and I have barely enough energy to keep the main areas clean. Sorry entryways, you'll never be clean again haha

My mom has been a Nazi about NOT cutting tags off of the baby clothes until baby is born in case something happens or baby is Hagrid-sized. I purchased some great NB sleepers and 3M Polo items second hand-- and oops, took the tags off today! It's not like I can return them anyway, since I bought them all for $3 and $4 at Once Upon a Child.

But heaven forbid I take the tag off a onesie from Target... :o3
