How early did you know the sex?

i went for my '12 week' scan yesterday, thinking I was 14 weeks pregnant. It turns out I am actually 16 weeks 4 days! And the midwife said she thought it looked like a boy! I thought it was supposed to be too early to tell yet, and don't want to run out and buy all my little boy bits yet. Has anyone else found out the six this early?

Just read another post about the correct use of the word 'gender'. I hadn't thought of it like that before and apologise if I've offended anyone. Just trying to work out how to edit the title of my post.

  • Oh and to your question, we didn't find out with DD until 19w (39w with DS, but Team Green). It should be possible at 16w. It becomes more clear after 17w. I'd probably wait for your anatomy scan to confirm, though.
  • We found out at 19 weeks. 16 weeks is a tad early but if you had an experienced tech they could probably make a pretty good educated guess. I would still wait for the actual anatomy scan before running out and buying all things blue! Congrats mama!

  • Thanks :) sorted it now.

I just told a lady at work that I was expecting a boy and she misheard me or just wasn't listening and started talking about how happy she would be if it was a girl! Rather than correct her I got embarassed and just went a long pretending I didn't know yet. Now I will have to go on pretending until the 20 week scan! Why did I do that, what an idiot!
  • I found out at 11 weeks when I got the results of my Materni21 test.
  • I also had blood work at 11 weeks (took 2 weeks to come back, so technically confirmed at 13 weeks). While I was waiting for it to come back I had my 12 week scan and the tech ended up having to do a trans vaginal due to the baby being on her head. She was able to get right up in the baby's business and told me in her 26 years of scanning she would be willing to bet it was a girl (didn't see any boy parts at least). Got my results a few days later to confirm it was! 16 weeks is not too soon! Congrats on your baby boy :) boys are great!!!
  • With my first, I found out at our anatomy scan (at 20 weeks).

With my second, we found out through post-loss genetic testing.

    This! =D>

I found out at my anatomy scan with all 3 of my kids, between 18 and 21 weeks.
  • I found out at 15wks that I was having a girl. I'm pretty sure it's accurate. I dont think they would tell you if they weren't sure
  • 14 weeks with both of my babies! Congrats OP!

At 21 weeks with DD after my amnio.  Could have potentially found out with DS at 8 weeks because I had to get the Harmony test but we went team green.
  • With my first I found out at 14 weeks he was a boy so it's not too early ☺
  • #1 13wk1d
    #2 17wks
#3 was told boy at 16wks but found out 2 days ago at 21wk6d that it's actually a girl. It's kind of hard to change gears after thinking it was a boy for so long. I wouldn't buy anything until you have your anatomy scan.

  • I found out at 16 weeks + 3 that she's a girl :-)
  • I found out at 15+1 that it's a girl, confirmed by the anatomy scan at 21 weeks & by the verifi test as well.
  • I didn't know you could find out so early! I can schedule my ultrasound anywhere in the 13-16 week range... I am going to try to do it the latest possible date and hope I can find out!
  • I found out from my doctor the day after my anatomy ultrasound at 19 weeks.

I think it depends on where you live if you can find out earlier than that. I'm in BC, Canada and it's illegal for an ultrasound tech to tell you the sex before 20 weeks here.
  • I was told that we are probably having a boy at my 12w NTS. Yesterday at 17 weeks we have confirmed that!
  • 12 weeks from the Verfi test. Boy.

  • We had the official scan week 20, but we clearly saw the boy parts on the week 11 scan... Of course no one wanted to determine it that early. We just happened to get a perfect shot and my SO reads ultrasounds all the time so he was confident at such an early date...
  • I'm curious if anyone is from Massachusetts. There's so much red tape in this state that I have a gut feeling they COULD tell me at the 16 ultrasound but won't until the 20 wk ultrasound. Anybody know by any chance? Because I have definitely heard of similar instances to what @pinkspringtulip said.
  • I hand a scan at 15 weeks and the boy parts were right there. The amnio did confirm the XY 100% A few weeks later though.
  • I found out at 17 weeks. I was worried it would be a little early not just for the gender, but that the tech wouldn't be able to get the measurements needed. It worked out and she got everything she needed and we also found out the baby was a boy.
  • We found out at 14 weeks that it was a boy...it was just all hangin out there lol
  • With my first who was a boy, I found out at 17 weeks!  =]
my second son was complicated, I paid to get like 3 different ultrasounds from 18 weeks on... and I didn't find his out till 23 weeks!  That kid was difficult haha.
can't wait to find out the sex of this one :D

  • Found out at 13 weeks with the Harmony test. It was so fun to find out early!
  • Found out at 18+4 that I'm having a little girl, I was dead set that I was having a boy but was proved wrong and couldn't be happier :)
  • At 12 weeks, the tech made an educated guess (2 boys).  I work in the medical field so she was comfortable telling me at that time ... even though it wasn't 100%.  High Risk OB confirmed at 18 weeks and at 26 weeks, it's still 2 boys.  ;)
  • I found out at 13 weeks. No one believed us that we were having a little boy because it seemed to early to find out the sex of the baby ..
  • Found out at 15 weeks and he was CLEARLY a boy lol
  • I'm curious if anyone is from Massachusetts. There's so much red tape in this state that I have a gut feeling they COULD tell me at the 16 ultrasound but won't until the 20 wk ultrasound. I'm from MA, although I personally go to an OB in RI; however a lot of my friends go to Drs here in MA and I have never heard of any red tape or any issues with them finding out. I think it depends on your OB. Many don't even do an U/S at 16 weeks, they wait until around 20 weeks when it is best to do the A/S because this is when they can see all of the really important stuff (e.g. the heart) the best. If you want to find out earlier, I would suggest an elective place. I just got lucky with this pregnancy that the hospital I am having DD at offers the genetic testing free of charge to everyone who is giving birth there (as part of a study) - the perk of it was finding out the sex at 11 weeks.
  • Thank you so much @Miz_Liz I went in to MassGen yesterday for the early risk assessment and they are the ones who I guess are doing my anatomy scan now so I was able to get a definitive answer from them. 18 Weeks (4 weeks from now), I was actually able to schedule it on my birthday!!!!
  • I found out at 16 , ultrasound . My friend - at 12 with some blood test .
