i went for my '12 week' scan yesterday, thinking I was 14 weeks pregnant. It turns out I am actually 16 weeks 4 days! And the midwife said she thought it looked like a boy! I thought it was supposed to be too early to tell yet, and don't want to run out and buy all my little boy bits yet. Has anyone else found out the six this early?
Re: How early did you know the sex?
I just told a lady at work that I was expecting a boy and she misheard me or just wasn't listening and started talking about how happy she would be if it was a girl! Rather than correct her I got embarassed and just went a long pretending I didn't know yet. Now I will have to go on pretending until the 20 week scan! Why did I do that, what an idiot!

I found out at my anatomy scan with all 3 of my kids, between 18 and 21 weeks.
#2 17wks
#3 was told boy at 16wks but found out 2 days ago at 21wk6d that it's actually a girl. It's kind of hard to change gears after thinking it was a boy for so long. I wouldn't buy anything until you have your anatomy scan.

I think it depends on where you live if you can find out earlier than that. I'm in BC, Canada and it's illegal for an ultrasound tech to tell you the sex before 20 weeks here.
I'm from MA, although I personally go to an OB in RI; however a lot of my friends go to Drs here in MA and I have never heard of any red tape or any issues with them finding out. I think it depends on your OB. Many don't even do an U/S at 16 weeks, they wait until around 20 weeks when it is best to do the A/S because this is when they can see all of the really important stuff (e.g. the heart) the best. If you want to find out earlier, I would suggest an elective place. I just got lucky with this pregnancy that the hospital I am having DD at offers the genetic testing free of charge to everyone who is giving birth there (as part of a study) - the perk of it was finding out the sex at 11 weeks.
