Frustrated with fetal Doppler!!

I am 11 weeks and ordered the Sonoline B Doppler which everyone raves about. I've had NO luck finding heartbeat. My doctor found it right away with Doppler last week. I'm starting to wish I didn't order one so I don't feel so bummed that I can't figure it out!!

Re: Frustrated with fetal Doppler!!

  • There are a lot of videos on YouTube that might help you out a bit. For one, make sure your looking low enough, if you were wearing a bikini, look right where the top of the bikini line would be, maybe even a littleee lower. Start in the middle and then slowly move to left or right side. Sometimes it's about the angle too, like keep your wand in the same spot but tilt it around a little. Also, make sure your using enough gel. I'm 12w2d and it took me two 15 minute trys to finally find it today. Sometimes you find it right away, sometimes you can't find it all and then you find it when you look a little bit later. Also it helps for some people if you have a full bladder. I don't know if this was any new information of this was any help at all but please try to not get too upset, I try remind myself it's a $45 piece of equipment, it's not going to the best of the best. Try to not sweat it too much (hard, I know, its frustrating)! :/ good luck!

  • My husband is the only one who can find it. It's so frustrating but I'm glad we can usually pick it up after a bit. Once you find the spot baby is its easier to find it again. I'm 11 wks and 5 days if that helps using the same doppler.

Try it at different times of the day and with full bladder, empty bladder, full stomach, empty stomach. I had most luck very first thing in the morning before I got out of bed with full bladder, empty stomach and laying totally flat. Had to push in quite hard as well.

At 12 weeks when my uterus moved up I could feel the ridge and that helped a lot as I could move along the ridge and found it withing 30 seconds.

But I feel your pain, it's really frustrating.
  • I'm having same issues. Just found Monday at the drs and I've been trying for a week myself.
  • It's still really hard at this point, It was taking me over an hour the first few weeks. I agree full bladder, empty bladder etc. can make a difference. If it's causing you distress then it may be time to shelf it for a week. I was Pgal so I had a rule that I would try for 1 hour every other day maximum so I wouldn't let myself get too worked up.

The first time I tried it, I thought I found it immediately but it turned out that after watching several YouTube videos the sound I found wasn't the babes heartbeat, it was my own. Soooo, I literally spent THREE hours Saturday night searching. And searching. And searching. Nothing. Finally Monday my dr showed me where to look and i went home and found it immediately and have ever since. I found it much lower than I expected to. And when you hear your heartbeat or the "swoosh" noise, you are close. Keep tilting and angling. And if it's making you anxious or stressed, shelf it for a few days :)
  • Definitely watch some videos. A full bladder makes it louder, at least for me. It doesn't have to be uncomfortably full but I wouldn't pee at least 30 minutes to an hour before you try. And search way down low. Remember baby is still right down there with your pubic bone.

  • Thanks ladies! I had one of my friends try it and I think we may have found it. It said 125 BPM in the screen which seems a little slow to me. So I'm still unsure about it.
  • I have the sonoline b as well. I know its got rave reviews but I honestly hate it. The number display is always wrong. It has my baby's HB right around the 120 mark as well and often has my own HB at ridiculously fast numbers. I've quit looking at it and I simply set a stop watch on my phone and count. I get baby's heartbeat closer to 150-160 when I do it that way.

I used to own the hi-bebe doppler but I loaned it to a friend and it broke. I wish I'd just bought another of that brand!

  • We tried around 8 weeks and couldn't find anything! Last night at 9 wk 3 d we found it much higher than we thought it would be! It was about an inch down and to the right of my belly button! The first time we were looking on top of the bikini line area... That's too low!
  • I also had to push down quite a bit to get mine as I'm not a skinny person....but I'll look in the place I know it's at for twenty-thirty minutes.... A centimeter can make all the difference!
