Insanely itchy!

Hey everyone :)

I'm a FTM at 32 weeks and my stomach is INSANELY itchy. To the point where I can't help but scratch and have even bled a little by accident, from scratching so much. I've tried vitamin E oil, anti itch lotions and Palmers lotions. It is an everyday thing and is driving me nuts. I try so hard not to scratch but can't help it sometimes.

I know it's just that my little girl is gaining fat and is getting bigger and stretching my skin, making it itchy. Any suggestions are welcome! I'm in desperate need of something to make it stop itching so bad :(

Thanks!

Re: Insanely itchy!

  • I have been using Aveda Beautifying Composition and I love it! I just rub some on my belly after a shower and it absorbs right in. I have been using it since day one and have not had a problem with itchiness! It doesn't have a scent and even though it's an oil consistency, it is not greasy. It can even be used in the bath instead of bubble bath, on dry scalp and on dry cuticles. Love it! :)
  • That sounds great! And definitely worth a try, thank you!

  • I have been using a massage bar from Lush and it is absolutely amazing! It absorbs right into my skin and I haven't had any itching at all.
  • I love Lush. I buy their soaps and bath boms all the time :)
  • Yeah I too have found going topless helps - or at least rolling up to my shirt to right under my boobs when I'm home.
  • I've been using honest company belly balm since about 14 weeks and have had no trouble with itching....I could just be lucky though...
  • My whole body is itchy right now!! It's driving me crazy!!
  • My entire body is itchy! Behind my knees, my legs, my palms, my shoulder blades, under my boobs. I thought it was my bra just rubbing my skin but no, still scratching like a crazy lady. I go see the dr tomorrow morning so I am going to mention it to her then. But geez, some relief would be great.

  • Bio oil has been my saving grace! When I get home from work I put it on first thing and I feel sooo much better. Just don't plan on wearing a shirt for at least 30 min. I throw on a robe
  • Thank you guys for the feedback! Rolling my shirt up and leaving my belly in the open is definitely working! I used vitamin E oil and rolled up my shirt Hopefully this continues to help! :-D
  • I've been using burts bees mama bee belly butter. Haven't had any issues yet.

  • I've seen stuff on pine tar soap
  • FYI intense itching is a symptom of a more serious condition called Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy (ICP). You should talk to your doctor immediately. https://www.icpcare.org/index.html
  • I actually called my doctor yesterday because the itching is just too intense. And I can't help but to scratch sometimes, I'm only human haha.

Anyway, they said to come in tomorrow at 2, and the nurse sounded concerned on the phone. Hopefully all goes well. I'll send an update tomorrow.

    Wish me luck!

  • So I went to the dr yesterday an I told her about this. She said that she thinks I am just experiencing pregnancy related Itching due to hormones, etc. but she did send me for blood work this am, so now the wait begins.....She also said that Benedryl is ok to take too!

  • I Have cholestasis (icp) which makes me very itchy! It's a serious pregnancy condition that you should get blood work done to check your liver function and bile acid level. Good luck ladies! Hope your labs come back negative!!!
  • I use coconut oil with lavender oil in it. I even use lavender oil on my three year olds bug bites. It takes to itch away and the coconut oil is great for your skin.
  • My itching was unbearable around 5 months.  I used palmers cocoa butter and it worked wonderfully, made my skin soft and stop itching, but I couldn't handle the smell. Now I am using Burts Bees oil on the weekends and lotions daily, it has done wonders. I love it. I have been told by many people that coconut oil works wonders for everything
  • I've been using coconut oil and it's helped! I also have been getting these weird intensely dry patches though, and my doctor recommended an over the counter hydrocortisone cream which she said is safe to use and that's helped too.
  • Looks like I will be buying some coconut oil this weekend!
  • Ok so I went to the doctor yesterday, and it turns out I have a rash that 1 out of 150 pregnant women get. It's called PUPP and it shows up in the 3rd trimester and does not go away until you deliver. I guess some women get it so bad that they elect to be induced early to make it go away (as it can spread from your stomach to other areas).

PUPP looks like stretch marks on me, but they're raised and painfully itchy and darker in color than normal stretch marks.

This stupid itchy rash, can be treated with medicine, which he prescribed me. He suggest I first try this:

Step 1: Rotate every 3 hours between rubbung Caladryl on my belly & putting a small amount of 1% hydra cortisone on it. This goes on all day.

Step 2: take an Aveeno oatmeal bath at night followed by 50MG of Benadry.

I know it only been a day & a half but the rash is spreading to the upper half of my stomach and the only thing that's worked so far is the Caladryl. If it doesn't get better by tomorrow that's when I'll start the medicine.

Hope this helps anyone out there who may be experiencing the same symptoms!

I'll be 36 weeks tomorrow and in the last few days I have gone from normal itchiness to insanely itchy. It's gotten to the point that I wake up in the middle of the night almost in tears because I itch so bad. It looks like Pupps to me but at my doctors appt yesterday my doctor said it looks like just regular stretch marks to her. Today I feel like more bumps are appearing around the stretch marks and now I even have some red bumps on my hands and arms. If the itchiness continues to increase and spread I will be calling her tomorrow.
  • Let your doctor know. My sister had to be induced yesterday because extreme itchiness CAN (but not always) be a sign of something wrong. It's better safe than sorry to get checked out.
  • Im itchy all over and have been nearly my entire pregnancy. It's driving me insane they keep telling me it's normal at the dr tho...
  • I take benadryl. However I've been our of it for a few days. I have liver problems and the high liver enzymes cause me endless itching. I wish I could sleep...just too itchy.

That sounds exactly like Pupps. I had the same thing. Bumpy stretch marks and a rash of red tiny bumps all over. Ask your doctor about getting prescribed something for it. I tried everything else under the sun (Benadryl, Caladryl, Hydrocortisone) and nothing worked really well. I forget what they prescribed me, but it worked like a charm and I've been itch free for a few weeks now. Had it not gone away I don't know what I would have done. It's painfully itchy. Just horrible.
  • If the itchiness comes back at all and is not pupps related or for anyone else dealing with crazy itchy skin, I find that any kind of natural lotion (body shop, burt's bees etc) helps a lot cause there are less chemicals.
Also if you get cetaphil or other non-scented/tattoo cream that works well too.
