Both, but I am anemic. The iron contained in the prenatal is insufficient for me. If you suspect you have an iron deficiency, talk to your dr. and he should put you on an extra dose of iron... though I have heard that there are specific prenatals for low iron counts.
I take iron pills due to the fact that i had to switch from a prescription prenatal vitamin which contained it to the gummies because the pill form has made me sick, ever since morning sickness hit after becoming pregnant. I think the iron in it was the culprit, as it was hard on my stomach. The ones i am taking now are gentle and more easily digested so they don't affect me
I am an extreme anemic. I have to take iron supplements but they seem to still not be enough. Spent yesterday at labor and delivery because my iron was so low even after taking iron pills. Plus my prenatals have iron in them and I'm on like an all iron diet. Lots of red meats!
My body is just having a hard time with the increased blood supply demands from baby.

It's a powder you mix with water and makes a drink that is clear/a bit salty. I just read the box and it's got : macrogol, sodium cholride, sodium bicarbonate, potassium chloride
It's probably called something different as I'm in Australia Hth
@shannonota does granola help with the issue? I've been eating a lot of it and can't figure out if maybe that's what's causing it. I'm pretty sure its the iron though.

Depends on how much protein is in it. That can plug me up sometimes but I eat granola everyday with yogurt. I bet it's the iron more than anything too.
I agree. Google can be a scary place. I'm not sure about less poop? I would assume so because your body uses protein for energy so more is absorbed which is good. Iron is just a sneaky bitch. Id just try to add more water and fiber rich foods and see if it helps.
My iron was low too so I have been taking both a prenatal and an iron supplement. @Ckorines My doctor told me to take a Colace (stool softner) twice a day with the iron. The dietician told me a bowl of Raisin Bran everyday. I have to say the Raisin Bran is really the key for me... if I eat a bowl I go, if I dont have a bowl that day I won't.
I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the advice ladies! Thank you! @Soon2BKimbrough keep the colace around. It helps after you deliver too! Thank you again!
This is a big issue for me. I was a little anemic and my prenatal doesn't have iron in it. I tried the prenatal with iron and barf barf barf. Then I tried the liquid iron...even more barf barf. I can't stomach the iron supplements at all. They just don't stay down. I have been just trying to eat more foods that contain iron and my husband cooks in the iron skillet a lot.
@Ckorines try Feosol! It's a brand of iron pills available at either CVS or Walgreens. When I found out I was anemic, hubby went to the store and got the pharmacist to recommend an iron pill. Feosol has a built in stool softener, so there's literally NO constipation worries! It's about $20/bottle of 30 pills, but has been working wonders to get my iron levels up, give me additional energy and no "stoppage" issues.

I don't have any side effects from taking iron either! I bought mine at walmart I think it's like 75 milligrams I haven't taken it in a couple weeks though. They told me to take it seperatly from my prenatal vitamins and I can never remember to take them. The iron not the prenatals
My doc told me to take my iron every other day to avoid constipation, but I suppose that depends on how low your iron levels are. I also eat bran cereal or oatmeal every day
@daisyjo743 Your not the only one. They can make ppl throw up and go diarrhea too.
@liatsao Most iron supplements you should be taking away from other pills because of the potential absorption issues associated with iron. Fiber, calcium, phosphorus, zinc, copper, some herbs etc...are all thought to be inhibitors to proper absorption of iron and should be avoided if possible in the hour around your iron pill and since most prenatal contain some of these minerals it is best to take them at different times in the day.
It is good to take the iron with something high in vitamin C as it will help with absorption.
My doctor told me to take 325mg THREE times a day! I'm wondering if I have any blood in me at all!! And I was told to take Colace due to the constipation.
I've been taking iron for a little over a week and my hemoglobin is up a point! Its nice to see it working. On a side note- I am kinda jealous of those with constipation... iron has done the opposite to me. A happy medium would be nice. (:|
