2nd Trimester

Nosebleeds?

This is my first pregnancy so I obviously have no idea what to expect, but I keep getting nosebleeds. My doctor says it's normal but no one else I've talked to has ever heard of it happening. I am 17 weeks now and this started early into 16 weeks. A lot of times when I throw up (pretty bad morning sickness still) there's blood in there, too, which my doctor says is probably the same mucus, but it's gross and I'm wondering if there's anything I can do for it?

Thanks!!

Re: Nosebleeds?

  • The body is producing more blood pregnant when not so nose bleeds are common. I've had a lot of bloody noses lately. Its pregnancy related. I found sleeping with a humidifier helps a little since it seems to be dry air causing my issue. Also I've heard saline spray should help.

  • I started having nosebleed since week 14. It's better now. My doctor said it's nornal too. I use a humidifier in my room and that helps.
  • Normal, read the weekly updates on the bump or pick up a pregnancy book.

They're definitely normal. I just had my first one while throwing up last night. :(
  • I had nosebleeds every morning until about 24 weeks. Still get them a lot. And ya, the blood stays in your mucus/phlegm which is also really lovely LOL.
  • I was having constant nosebleeds from 16 weeks until maybe 20 weeks. (Still get them on occasion and have a history of severe ones thanks to trauma from when I was 4). But they are completely normal. Also They can be stress/induced--these usually bleed from larger capillaries at the back of the nose, which will have likelihood of going down the back of your throat. bottom line they are one of the additional unfortunate aspects of pregnancy.

It'll get better! Mine have subsided :)
  • I have had more nose bleeds since 16 weeks than I can count. Totally normalz

    Do the latter.
