13 weeks and was in a wreck

yesterday as I was driving to work, a teenager cut across a median trying to get to a side street and pulled out in front of me causing me to t-bone her. Luckily I was paying attention and slammed on my breaks slowing down somewhat. I was going the speed limit of 65 before breaking. There wasn't anything I could do but hang on at that point. I must have blacked out because I just remember seeing the side of a white car in front of me, and then I smelled smoke and dust and everything was still. I opened the door so I could breathe and my glasses had been knocked off by the airbags I guess. As soon as I opened the door a lady with short dark hair was saying she was a registered nurse and started asking me questions to see how with it I was and checking my vitals. She stayed with me till the paramedics got there and then dissapeared just as quickly as she came. I'm sad that I didn't catch/remember her name

My car was totaled. The engine was in the glove compartment, the grill was behind the front tires, the bumper was yards away.

The first thing I started asking about after I started coming to, was my baby. I remember not feeling pain down there but I was so dazed I could have lost a leg and not feel it. After I was in the ambulance, the EMT used their Doppler, but warned me that it might not pick up anything, which it didn't. I was so terrified but I also tried to be as logical as I could at that point.

When we got to the hospital, they did X-rays first, nothing broken but a bad case of whiplash. I was interviewed by the highway patrol, they did some blood work etc. it seemed like they were doing everything possible to push back on checking the baby.
FINALLY, they did an ultrasound and my LO was bouncing and kicking all over the place. I was sooo relived. Heartbeat was at 144. And everything looked good to the dr. The girl and her parents came to our room and apologized. She had airbag burns and a seatbelt bruise but was fine. I felt so bad for her because she was so scared, I hope for her sake she learned a lesson.

Yesterday threw my life into chaos. My car I inherited from my grandparents, I'm in so much pain that I can't even pick up my 1 1/2 y/o Daughter. My heart is broken and I'm feeling down.
Don't get me wrong, I know things could have easily been much much worse. And I'm so greatful that someone was watching over us, and I had angels coming out of nowhere yesterday.

  • Oh gosh! Thank goodness you're alright! The description alone was terrifying to read. You certainly did have an angel with you then. I'm sorry you are in pain and hope you feel better soon. Sending you happy vibes!

  • Thank you. I just feel like I need some support. The whole incident is really getting to me to the point that I don't know if I'm coming or going anymore.

But atleast everyone is in one piece.
  • Omg that is so scary but wonderful to hear that you and baby are okay.
  • That's so scary! I was in a bad car accident in November. I was rear ended on the freeway, car behind me was going pretty fast. My car was totaled as well, the entire back was smashed and air bags went off. I can say that I am thankful I didn't have a little one in the back at the time! I was so sore for a week but couldn't move for about 3 days. It is definitely scary!!! Good news is your baby is okay and you will get through it! I did physical therapy and it helped me a lot so maybe look into options for you if you are still in pain. So sorry that had to happen to you.
  • Thank you for your story. I'm going to the hospital tomorrow for a recheck and to get the files for the insurance. I'll definitely ask about PT
  • Oh my gosh im so relieved it didnt end worse than that! Im so sorry that happened to you. Teared up reading this, really hope your pain stops as soon as possible, but oh gosh what a relief it mustve been to see your little one move around!
Hope you start feeling better soon.

As an ER nurse I've seen just how badly something like that can end. Sounds like your guardian angel was watching over you. :) I can tell you what I always tell my patients. The first couple of days after a car accident are the worst you'll be sore and feel like crap. Take some Tylenol and use ice packs on the sore areas (not heat). Glad you and your LO are okay.

  • I am so sorry you had that experience, but I am so happy that you and LO are okay. I'm also very thankful to hear that the young girl who was driving the other car is okay! Thankfully, at 13 weeks, baby has much more room in their than he/she would at a later point in pregnancy. It sounds like you well taken care of physically, so now it's a matter of working through it mentally. I hope you have time and feel well enough to go for some walks in the coming days and socialize with others. It helps to get out and to be among people rather than to sit and work on coping with the situation on your own. You're a tough mama!

  • That's terrible, but I'm so happy to hear that everyone is ok (if a bit sore). If you're interested in knowing who the woman was who stopped to help, you might try checking with the investigating officer when you're feeling better. They usually try to get the names & statements from anyone at the scene. She might have disappeared to talk to the cops while you were being helped by the EMTs. Maybe call the station that responded? Or, alternatively, your insurance company will probably get a copy of the accident report eventually (it takes time for the cops to finalize), so maybe ask them to send you a copy when they have it.

  • My goodness I"m SO SORRY this happened to you!!! I'm soooooo relieved to hear that baby was bouncing and well and I'm so glad you are ok. Car accidents are the worst. they really shake you up for months. My husband and I got into an accident while in a cab in Canada this past August. We were T-boned and in the back seat, we spun twice and hit another car. My husband ended up having a shattered spleen (he needed emergency surgery; worst week of my life) and was bleeding internally. I (STILL) have a bruised bone bruise on my shin. til this day I'm terrified of cabs and car accidents. Gosh- I'm SO GLAD YOU'RE OK!!! god is good.

So glad you and peanut are okay!!! You had some angels with you! Rest up!
  • That must have been the scariest moments of your life! I'm so happy that you and baby are alright! Hopefully your soreness will pass in a few days and that your emotional fears will subside too! Prayers and hugs!
  • Also maybe post your story on Facebook to see if you are able to track down the woman who helped you!
  • Glad to hear everyone is ok! Hope your mind is able to settle soon.

  • Thanks for the kind words and concerns. I went in for a recheck, baby's heartbeat is still good, and Dr ordered me some Physical therapy that will be scheduling sometime this week.

Dealing with the insurance company is being a pain, but I have a lot of support at home and online.

    Again thank you ladies
  • That's awful but it's good to hear you and baby are okay. Thanks for the update, I was wondering if you had gone back in. It's crazy you just don't know when these things can happen. It could have been worse though. I hope you have a speedy recovery! Thoughts and prayers for you and baby.
  • So glad you and baby are ok! Take care and rest as much as you can. Xo
