For Fun...weirdest shower gift you've received?

I had my shower this past weekend and while I received many wonderful things off our registry, there was one gift that made me go, "Um.....ok?" My quirky aunt gave a me an ashtray and quickly explained that it was to hold a pacifier. Props for creativity, but opening an ashtray at a baby shower is just goofy. So it got me thinking......

What's the weirdest gift you've received for your little bundle?

  • We received a personalized baseball jersey (of a pro team) with baby's name.... In a men's size Large. I mean, it's super nice and was probably really expensive but we have no idea what to do with it. We are fans do the team but not really... And hubby doesn't wear jerseys. Maybe this isn't strange to some but I just feel guilty like it won't get used...But I'm thankful!

@alleya47 that is super odd.... Lol :) gotta love the quirky aunts!
  • Not really strange, but I felt uncomfortable opening some of the breast feeding related stuff (lanolin cream, nursing pads, etc). These are super helpful gifts that I really appreciate, but I did feel awkward opening them in front of a room full of people!

  • I got baby gas relief. But hey my friends kid was super gassy and made their lives miserable because of it, I think it's super practical but not like the fun aww how cute..

I took all breastfeeding items off my registry for that reason. I couldn't imagine writing the thank you note. "Thank you so much for the nipple cream.." Lol. I bought it all myself.
Oh, none of it was on my registry haha. I have a private "Mommy Wishlist" with stuff like that on it but no one has access to it... so this was all people who got it on their own. Like I said, it really is very helpful, but definitely awkward!

Bling Binky ... I think they are so cute.

  • OK, I feel left out because I haven't gotten a strange gift. I have my last shower this Saturday, I better get something weird
  • NPR but my mother-in-law insisted on holding a lingerie shower when DH and I got married. She would not let me decline her offer. Super awkward.

Super creepy for a MIL to do!

We had a lingerie shower for a friend one time, complete with penis cake (sprinkle pubes, anyone? ) this was a girl I grew up with and went to church with and her mom showed up. She got her a bikini but it was still really awkward. I wanted to hide under the table.
  • Not weird. But probably the most interesting, we are doing a koala themed nursery, so my " bridesman" got me a coin from Australia. It has a koala on the back. And it's silver so when our baby grows up s/he can sell it. After he explained it, it was a really thoughtful gift.

My MIL insists on taking her daughters in law lingerie shopping pre-wedding and pays for something nice. My former SIL warned me but it was soooo awkward.

  • This is kind of a long story but I'll try to make it short! My fiancé's grandpa made wooden rockers in all different animal shapes for all the grand kids. He has now passed so they are extremely special to everyone! At our baby shower this weekend we got gifted one that belongs to one of my fiancé's cousins. Her parents gave it to us. I'm just super confused because she probably wants to give it to her kids... Like is she going to want it back?? We already have our own special one and now we have two. It was just so weird! I don't even know what to do with it.
  • I didn't receive anything really out there. But I did get like 7 baby blankets. This is going to be one toasty kid!
  • Not necessarily weird but I really hate when people buy sports memorabilia ... First of all neither me nor DH are sports fans and I find it annoying that people buy outfits in whatever sports team they like and assume we like it too ( those clothes usually go
In the back of the closet or get donated)...of course if they knew we were fans of a certain team it might be cute but otherwise I really don't care for it! I know this is a silly annoyance but I couldn't think of a weird gift :)

Thankfully, there were no penis cakes. Lol. However, she did invite all her friends. Meaning, she invited all the old women from church, DH's grandmother, and my grandmother. I ripped open gift bags and said, "thanks everyone." Then left as quickly as I could. It was too much to be polite about. I do have to admit, though, some of those old ladies had great taste in teddies.
  • Now I feel bad. I got my BF from high school a bunch of breastfeeding supplies for her shower. I was out of state, so I wasn't there when she opened it. I did warn her in the card it was all boob related. Hopefully it wasn't awkward. I didn't think twice! After having my son, I lost all body shame. Note to self for my FTM friends...
