I am epileptic and my doctor said that I could birth my baby vaginally with the vacuum. But I've been reading up on the side effects of that and I'm wondering if it would be best if I just got a cesarean instead? I'm really confused, please help!
Not totally sure what side effects are of a vacuum birth but I had to have one with my first and it still does require a ton of pushing from the mother. My fluid was clear when my water was broken but after she came out there was meconium in the fluid and I do believe it was from the stress of the vacuum. She spent 7 days in the NICU because of it. I'm planning to have a c section with my 3rd in 3 weeks due to the trouble I've had with vaginal births. Hope this helps!
Have you discussed having a C-Section with the Dr or does that raise risks for you as well. I would weigh the pros and cons of both a vaginal birth and a c-section and go from there. I know if I were in your position I would make sure I know which is safest for both myself and for the baby and decide that way.
I had a vacuum used 14 years ago with my first. I got the epi and was useless with pushing so they had to get him out. He had a little cone head for a day or two but other than that he's great. I did have an episiotomy bc of the vacuum.
I had a vacuum delivery with my first because she started have heart decelerations and needed to get out ASAP. We had absolutely no complications from it. It did still take a good amount of pushing effort from me.
The nurse didn't hold down the vacuum properly somehow so when the dr pulled with it it slipped off my sons head and he sucked back up into me... Now that was a crazy feeling. Also for side effects would be the cone head as well as vacuums cause bruises and bruising causes your child to get jaundice that they will have to keep checking on for the remainder of your hospital stay and even a little after birth. The skin and/or eyes will turn yellowish and they have to keep checking the blood.
Hi! I am epileptic too! We went with a planned section for my daughter 14 months ago bc of the chance I would seize during labor. I am now scheduled for my second section on Monday ( 1 week from today). It was the best choice for me and my baby(s). C sections are tough no doubt but it was the safest and most controlled environment I needed. Good luck to you mama.
I'm a huge advocate for natural birth, but your situation is one that medical interventions were actually created and intended for. I agree with PP to weigh the risks and benefits and also discuss it with your doctor to decide. That's a tough decision for sure. Good luck to you!
