My Clothes Don't Fit

but I'm not ready for big belly clothes yet either. I'm in the awkward phase. I'm wearing the elastic waist pants from Old Navy maternity and those are fine. But for shirts and stuff I am at a loss.

My regular clothes just make me look like I have a new gut and are horrible. But I think it's ridiculous to start with the empire waisted totally obviously made for 25+ weeks pregnant shirts.

What are you guys wearing these days? I'm about 11 weeks

I bought some maternity t shirts from old navy. They're like regular shirts, just have the stretch on the sides to grow with me.
For work I bought flowy tanks and open cardigans that will last me the first 4-5 months of pregnancy and be nice after the baby is born too so I can cover the postpartum belly.

  • I'm wearing t shirts to the gym since all my normal clothes are showing off my newly formed tire I have around my waist, and wearing a lot of lose fitting dresses/tunics outside of that. Jean jackets and scarfs have been taking my brain and other people's eyes off my belly as well when I have to wear a tight shirt, also kimonos have been hiding it too. I'm not ready to buy maternity clothes. I'm 12w4d today.
  • Sweatpants :( haven't went shopping yet.
  • I bought maternity pants. I'm not wearing them 100% of the time, just on days my regular pants hurt. Motherhood maternity has some cute t-shirts and tanks in their 'belly start' line. They are longer and stretchy but aren't maternity with the rouching.

I'm in full maternity. I've always preferred a tighter fit in the belly. I've got maternity jeans with the adjustable waistband, the stretchy waist and then a pair of full on over the belly pair. I honestly prefer the full belly jeans at this point (just in the last few days as I've really popped) as I feel like they make me look like I'm pregnant and not just overeating. As for shirts. Lots of stretchy t-shirts, the ones with the ruched sides. Or just some of my regular flowy shirts that have always had a little extra room in the belly. This phase doesn't last forever and you won't feel frumpy for long!

  • I hate this part almost as much as the post delivery part :(. My waist is disappearing, I can't find anything to wear, I'm not ready to "look pregnant" cause it's just bloat. Lots of hoodies, just hoping it stays cool outside for a few more weeks.
  • Lots of leggings with cute dresses or tunics with leggings. I found these poplin dresses from Old Navy to be affordable and figure flattering, without being an obvious empire waist.  https://oldnavy.gapcanada.ca/browse/product.do?cid=1011146&vid=1&pid=344595073

  • I am still wearing regular pants, I just bought a size up to give me more room. Like you, I am having difficulty finding shirts that work for me right now, most of my regular shirts just make me look like I gained weight and have a gut and maternity shirts are just way too big so I've been pretty much living in basic t-shirts that aren't too snug and give me some room, The Gap has some nice ones as does JcPenney for a whole lot cheaper, I think theirs are usually on sale for around 6.99. I also bought some maternity t-shirts from motherhood maternity, they are called Bumpstart vneck short sleeve maternity t-shirt and they come in a two pack and have ruching at the sides

  • Blerg, I just went shopping. A lot of loose/flowy tanks, a couple button-ups, dresses, and a pair of leggings and black loose pants. I'm gonna be chubby boho all summer! :(
  • Ughh I'm in that awkward phase too :/ can't wear my regular jeans way to tight and annoying on my belly but maternity clothes are way too big. just been wearing yoga pants and loose shirts but feeling so crappy about looking crappy haha!!! I can't wait to be abe to actually fit into my maternity clothes!!!
  • Shopping has been totally stressing me out so I've been avoiding it. I did get a Bella band at Target and that will get me through a few more weeks, I hope. I'm afraid to buy too much because I'm not sure what will fit later.
  • I broke down and bought a pair of maternity shorts and capris yesterday. Hello stretchy pants! We're going to Charleston SC this week for a wedding. I needed some walking around clothes besides my trusty old yoga pants that I wear all the time.
  • I'm 12 wk tomorrow and my cloths start FEELING very uncomfortable around 9 wks .I broke down and bought a belly band from motherhood and it's not worth crap. So I went and found some cheap maternity shirts and a couple pants....good luck and happy shopping
  • I had been wearing my favorite pair of jeans with a belly band from target until yesterday when the seam on the butt wore out :( they were my last comfortable pair that I could wear in public. Guess it's time to head to the maternity section...

I'm so grateful right now that for some unknown reason I have two pairs of shorts that were always too big for me. While I don't love them, they'll get me through for now, because my regular shorts/pants just aren't cutting it. I know it won't be too long, though, until I need to shell out a little cash and get some actual maternity clothes.
  • I have been folding and tucking the buttons on my jeans for more comfort. As for tops, I have been wearing flowy chiffon tank tops under my shirts on bloaty days. I have also sized up to a medium or even large in shirts for more comfort. Just all regular none maternity since my bump is not big enough to fit into them yet. Hope this helps!

  • Wore a pair of non maternity dress pants to church this morning. I left them unzipped and just folded the sides under, then pulled a tight fitting tank over to keep them in place with my shirt on top of that. About half way through the service I would have given my right arm for a pair of scissors to make more room in the waist of those pants. They were digging into my lower abdomen. Maternity pants from here on out for the win.
  • I highly recommend some maxi dresses/skirts. They are working very well for me right now. I also found some great old navy dresses to wear until I need to give in and get maternity clothes.

@kmkrushi - thank you! I swear my only maternity clothes are from target or old navy.

I wear my hand on my belly to accentuate that it's pregnancy and not just weight gain. ;) I know it looks awkward but somehow it makes me feel better. Lol.
  • Dress from BCGB not maternity but this cut of dresses perfect to go out . I'm 10 weeks
  • My "boyfriend" jeans and jeggings from Old Navy are the only things still comfy, but not for long. My other jeans I've been able to get by with the rubber band trick or my case, a hair tie.
  • Had to break down and get some maternity jeans today! Sooooo much more comfortable lol. I'm struggling with tops too though since overall I just feel fat lol. But in a couple weeks I will hopefully fit into maternity tops a bit better lol. @kmkrushi thanks for the cartwheel tip! They have some super cute stuff right now. Old navy is awesome too because, as my SO says, the entire store is basically always on sale lol. Good luck shopping ladies!
  • Wish it was a little cooler here to use sweatshirts and sweaters. It was in the 80's over weekend so hard to not wear tanks and shorts. I broke down and went shopping yesterday as all my regular shirts like everyone else just make me look like I enjoyed way too much food lately. Wearing my first pair of maternity work pants today but just pulled it some of my regular larger flowy tops. I will say maternity clothes are so much more comfy. It's probably a good thing I didn't discover them sooner or I would be in them all the time. Motherhood maternity has tanks and tshirts for casual wear without the rouching on the side.
  • I never wore maternity clothes, I always felt like they were so matronly and "moo-moo-esque', this is my 2nd pregnancy that will be during the summer so I really rely a lot on dresses, they aren't too constricting and just so comfortable to not have your belly strapped in all the time.
