Started my LO on oatmeal this week and he now has a bad rash on both cheeks. I called the doctor and they said it was an allergic reaction to the oatmeal and to stop feeding it for two weeks but didn't seem to concerned. I think I'm gonna go back to EBF for another month and then try again. Anybody else LO have a reaction to their first food? Here's what his looks like..

  • Awww poor pumpkin! I hope he gets better soon! Maybe when you try again, you could try barley cereal instead?

  • @ebilbao I'll look into it, thanks! So does it make sense to retry the oatmeal or just avoid it all together? I don't know anything about this solids stuff :-<
  • Maybe ask the doc. I would probably try barley first, then retry oatmeal.

  • We just tried cereal for the first time last week, our doc told us to start with rice cereal. I bought the Gerber Organic Brown Rice Cereal, DS liked it (although most of it landed on his face!). Just mixed a teaspoon with a bit of formula to make it really really mushy. I tasted it and it didn't taste bad at all! Of course, check with your doc to see if rice is the way to go and for how much.
  • who says it has to be dry cereal?  :) and rice cereal has been found to have high levels or arsenic, so try to go organic if you can

  • My pediatrician told me I can try my DD on rice cereal next week. But I could also try oatmeal first if I really want to but that she may have an allergic reaction to it initially if I don't at least try a rice cereal for 1-2 weeks.
  • @weer456 I wish my pedi would have warned me!
