I just posted a comment on another thread, but thought I'd start a separate thread, too. I just got back from a prenatal appointment where I found out my boy - who was head down last appointment - has now spun around and is breech today at 36w5d. My midwife and doula have recommended several things to try to spin him including moxibustion, the Webster technique, spinning babies, butt up yoga poses, playing music down low by the birth canal, and I also am scheduled for a version next week if nothing else works before then.
I would like to know if anyone has experience with trying to turn a breech baby at this stage of pregnancy?
UPDATE: Over the last few days I've had the Webster technique twice, moxibustion once, and spinning babies inverted positions every day. Tuesday's position check ultrasound revealed baby was transverse but head was higher than his butt. So I went through with an external cephalic version this morning, and after three attempts, this kid is breech. I'm scheduled for a c-section in a week and a half at 39 weeks. Just trying to wrap my head around the new plan and mourn the loss of the birth I wanted. Boo.
I had a version at 37 weeks during my last pg. it worked and I had a vaginal delivery a week later when I went into labor after having my membranes swept. I was going in for an induction at 38 weeks for bp issues.
My experience was not good. The doctor had never done one before. It was very painful. She couldn't get the baby turned. They called another doc from the practice and he came to the hospital and flipped the baby like it was nothing. Baby was fine but I ended up having bp issues from the procedure that never resolved from that point. I'm glad I had it done. And I'm glad it worked. But if this baby flips before delivery I will not choose a version again.
Others here have had them successful and not as traumatica as mine.
I made the mistake of googling version today. Watched a couple videos. Some women said it was painful. Others said it wasn't. It sure didn't look comfortable. That's for darn sure. But I'm terrified at the thought of a C. Our disability also sucks and still only pays you 6 weeks with a C.
@supersarah77 after my experience last time with a version and how awful it was I just can't go through that again. We had complications and I had extensive bruising on my abdomen from the first doc. . This time after talking it over with my OB I decided that if baby was still breech I would schedule a c-section. Fortunately baby flipped and is still head down. But I decided my experience was too traumatic to repeat and that I'm willing to do anything to have a healthy baby. Not everyone's experience is like mine. I have heard some great stories with success and no complications. It was worth it to me last time. But the thought of going through that again causes me all sorts of anxiety.
My 3rd was transverse, laying sideways at 36 weeks. I did nothing and he turned heads down by 38 weeks.
My last was breech at 36 and when checked 2 weeks later was transverse. 2 weeks later on my due date she turned heads down but a bit "off center" with her head more lodged in my hip. OVer the next few days her head made it into place. I was really nervous she would not turn but my dr just kept saying to give her time she would, totally unconcerned about it. Turns out she was right...but I was nervous. I did the tilted laying and crawled/walked around with my hands and feet on the floor butt upward, sat on an exercise ball, did belly dancing exercises etc. Not sure if it all helped but she did turn so I will count that as working.
The encouraging thing about my experiences is that I have mammouth sized babies so if mine can and do turn I think there is hope for any other baby. Its hard to believe a full size baby has room to turn but they can do it. Esp if my fatties can!
