39w+4 and nothing :(

I love reading all your posts about labour signs, babies arriving etc. but have to admit I'm very jealous!! I'm 40 weeks on Thursday (FTM) and have no signs of labour - no lost mucus plug, no waters breaking, no BH....I know a lot of babies are late, especially when it's your first....but I just want something to happen!! Anyone else in the same boat?

Re: 39w+4 and nothing :(

  • Yes & it's very frustrating. I had my water break yesterday, or so I thought. Turns out you can have more than one sac of water & the one that broke yesterday wasn't the right one. So now I sit here waiting, again. I really just want to cry.

I understand you perfectly. I will be 38 on Tuesday and wish I have a "sign" too. So far no dilation effacement, loss of plug, contraction, or even diarrhea. But one thing is certain baby will definitely come when she is ready.
  • Agreed. I am only 37w4d and already feel like I'm going crazy. Every time I go to the washroom I think I'm going to have SOME sort of sign - water breaking, mucus plug, bloody show. But...nothing!!! And every twinge or slight pain makes me think something is happening. But alas, it is probably just gas or some other silly thing...

I know baby will come when it is ready but I had this feeling LO would arrive in April. Guess I just got my hopes up for no reason...

There is two sacs of water? R u sure? I'm gonna go do a search now.
  • Yup! 38 weeks and "high tight and closed" :( I'm being induced at 39 weeks and I don't think its going to go too well since my cervix isn't ready at all.
  • I am 39+1, no signs of labor what so ever! I would love to have any sign to tell me that the end is near, or at least feel there is a progress! My family asks every 5 mins if I am having contractions, and it drives me crazy. I am convinced now that this baby is not coming without intervention. And my dr. wants me to wait to 41w. So, I am making myself comfortable for now!
  • Don't worry, with my first baby I also had absolutely no signs of labour until it actually happened at exactly 40 weeks and 2 days.. It will happen soon

Yes the nurse called it an inner and outer sac. She described it as like a pocket.
  • I'm so ready now, but nothing as of yet, I just want her to be here although due date isn't till next week :-(
  • With my kids I didn't drop, no loss plug and no water breaking until I was on the delivery table both times. All these post on here make me feel like it's the norm too but it might not be for you.
  • Thanks for the reassurance everyone - makes me feel good to know I'm not the only one with no labour signs....yet! If nothing else at least I'll learn to be a bit more patient after all this!
  • Right there with you! I'm exactly a week behind you and really no signs. Part of me is like, come on let's get this party started! And another part is like... Eep, not ready yet... :|
  • I'm on week 2 of prodromal labor and can assure you, having signs of labor isn't better. I've had contractions every 10-40 minutes for the last 8 hours, but not consistent enough to be true labor. My body is exhausted and I feel like I've been running a marathon all day. Enjoy not having signs of labor while you can.

Average for FTMs is 41w1d. And you could have signs for weeks like me or have no signs until hours before you deliver. The signs really don't mean much. Hang in there. Your baby won't stay in there forever, promise!

So sorry you're suffering! Can you sleep through it or too painful? Hope you get some rest!

  • I've gotten some rest, but not sleep. The last time I had this it lasted 10 hours, mostly throughout the night, and I was able to sleep some then. It's not too bad, just frustrating and exhausting.
  • My first baby was born on due date and I had no signs until back labor. Hang in there mama!!!
  • I am only 36 weeks but my first born came a week late.  It was so frustrating.  There is an episode of Friends where Rachel goes past her due date, her feelings are so relatable.  Also, hang in there, I promise it will happen soon.

  • I'm 40+1 (technically I'm A15, but my guess is I'm really M15) and I too haven't had a darn thing happen. It's so hard to read about everyone's LOs and know I could be waiting 2 more weeks... I've tried the following - chiro, massage, pedicure, primrose oil, pineapple, walking, lavender and clary sage EO, spicy food, sex, birth ball (I know they're all wives tales but you never know) and I'm still waiting for some sign.
  • 39w3d and nothing... So frustrating. I'm really blessed to have had such an easy time, but I hate the anticipation! I'm so impatient, but trying to put it in God's hands.
  • If it makes anyone feel better... I was my mothers first child and I asked her if she felt pains and things before she was due as I heard a lot on here about people feeling contractions and things early and she said she didn't feel anything until her due date and everything happened perfectly on time.
  • Hang in there, mama! Baby will come when ready. Having labour signs isnt fun. I've had them on and off for about 3 weeks now. I am 38 weeks 1 day. I am on day 8 straight of cramping, lower back aching, nausea, headaches, fatigue, emotional (like cry just because SO hugs me) and moodiness. With all of it, two days ago I was only 1cm dilated and 50% effaced. You will have your baby, just be thankful you don't have to go through weeks of what some of us do! :)
