IUGR baby and induction on Monday. Nervous

about a week ago I found out my baby is measuring 4 weeks behind and is considered IUGR. I met with a specialist who recommends divert at 37 weeks so I'm scheduled for an induction on Monday evening. I'm a FTM, worried about being induced and about my tiny little guy(only 4lbs) being able to handle the delivery. I'm also nervous of taking care of such a tiny little guy. I'm an anxious person in general and this isn't helping. Anyone experience an early induction with an IUGR?

  • I had my DS at 37 weeks 4 days for IUGR and oligohydramnios. He was born at 4lbs 7oz. He did 9 days in NICU. His digestive system ended up not being developed so he couldn't eat and was on an IV and NG tube. About a week after birth he started to eat. He is still super tiny (29 lbs and 36 inches, he will be 4 in 8/6) but healthy. You will be great. Your little one may end up coming home in a car bed, just a heads up. It's nothing terrible, but it took me by surprise since I didn't know in advance.

  • No experience bc I'm a FTM but I'm just thinking about how sometime early this week you will be with your precious son and it's going to be okay! And you'll be so happy!

My first was induced at 37 weeks due to IUGR. I found out at 36 weeks he was measuring only 32, I only had a week to prep so i understand your nerves but it worked out. My son ended up being born via c-section because the medicine they gave me to induce the labor made his heart rate drop, they determined he was too small and not strong enough to handle natural labor. He was born at 4lbs 5oz 17.5 in and spent 13 days in the NICU because he didn't know how to eat on his own but otherwise had no complications. He's turning 4 this week and is smaller than other kids his age but perfectly healthy. You and baby will do great :) Get some premie clothes!
