I've noticed it since about wk 32- as I'm getting out of bed or even getting out of a chair or just repositioning myself, I feel a pain/straining feeling from my vaginal area- similar to the pain you get when you worked out and your muscles are sore the next day when you try to move them.. thats the only way I can describe it. Im a FTM so I'm kinda freaked out but does anyone else feel this? Is it normal??

  • I sometimes feel pressure or generally sorr down there and it's fine, i think it's baby pushing down in an uncomfortable position. But do bring it up to your doctor on your next appointment just to be safe

  • Thanks ladies!
  • I have had his same pain also since about week 32. It could be SPD. There are a few posts on it if you search. Judging by what I've read there is really nothing that can be done about it other than knowing your limits and taking it easy.
  • Try holding your knees together when you roll over, stand up or change position. This has helped me a ton. Good luck!
  • I'm 36+4 right now and have been dealing with that same thing for a couple weeks now, when I asked my ob about it she said that it was from my cervix thinning and baby getting ready to come out so the only thing that you can really do is take your time when getting up and moving around. I've also discovered that either using a heating pad or an ice pack helps some, at least for a little bit. Hope this helps you a little bit and good luck.
  • I have this! It started suddenly and freaked me out. I saw my OB about it and she had a name for it...but I can't remember it. Pelvic something. Basically just that our bones are actually kinda separating a bit and the ligaments can also pull a bit. It's normal, it's painful and there's pretty much nothing we can do about it. She said it will all go back to normal after birth.
  • Beaseg I think you're talking about symphisis pubis disorder. I was looking that up too.
  • Is that it?? haha when she said it all I thought was "I'll never remember that name". haha
  • I had lots of pressure when I got up and a numbing soreness of sorts. My doctor said it could be vulva varicose veins and that the pressure is all the blood rushing there when you stand. They did an internal to make sure it wasn't that the baby had dropped (it wasn't) but it doesn't seem like much you can do for it just stay off your feet and try not to have sudden movements
  • Thanks for the input ladies, i feels better just knowing im not the only mama-to-be suffering from some awkwardly weird pain lol
  • I've got this now. I noticed that baby has dropped and figured that added pressure on the cervix was the result: oy! Does it get your attention like nothing else I've felt so far!
  • Same here - lots of new pressure... not fun.
  • Omg I have this too! Especially getting out of bed, it's so painful I'm 35 weeks. Happy to know its normal!
  • I'm having this same issue but only when I put pants on. Apparently, this kid would rather me be pantless lol
  • One thing my physical therapist has me do that helps tremendously with this pain is keep legs together and as I sit up, do a kegel while also engaging a muscle next to my hips. It's kinda hard to explain, but you kinda pull in your low belly (not like sucking in though, you should still be breathing during it). The muscle engages naturally when you laugh, so you can try laughing and feeling for it next to your hips to get familiar with it. Anyway, it has revolutionized the way I get out of bed. I also recommend physical therapy because that's the only reason I have even been able to walk for the past 20 weeks.
  • I'm 35+4 and I've been having sharp pains in my vaginal area for the past couple weeks. My OB told me yesterday that there are ligaments that start in your labia and go up through your pelvis and you hips. They can get pretty strained near the end of pregnancy. There's not really much you can do to relieve it other than try to take it easy and do smaller movements. I'm just ready for her to come out so I can feel somewhat normal again! Agh. The joys of pregnancy! ;)
  • Again, keep your knees together when you turn over in bed or get out of the car, etc., instead of moving one leg at a time. I went from incredible pain to almost none after just a few days :)
  • Keeping my legs together is just as painful when I roll over. I've also been getting sharp pains in what feels like my labia when I walk or stand, so what a pp said makes sense! I just keep telling myself only a couple more weeks!
  • My midwife called it Pelvic Girdle Pain..
