Postpartum attire

Ladies,

What's your plan for clothes once baby is here? It's been 14 years since I did this with my first and have no idea what to plan to wear. I'll only be home 6 weeks after baby then I'll be back at work full time. For the first few weeks I totally expect to wear pj bottoms and nursing tanks but what will you wear when you leave the house? Is it realistic to be in pre pregnancy jeans after 6 weeks assuming vaginal delivery? Thanks!

Re: Postpartum attire

  • Comfortable and stretchy is what I'm going with, both inside and outside the house. Some people can wear their pre-pregnancy clothes straight away and some can't. Maybe keep looser fitting clothes handy just in case.

  • If you don't fit into pre-pregnancy clothes and don't buy new other's you can always wear your maternity clothes.
  • I will be wearing mix of maternity clothes and looser fitting pre pregnancy clothes.... And thankfully it's almost summer weather so I'm sure I will be living in maxi dresses
  • Just lots of dresses for me
  • I'll be wearing loose fitting clothes or maternity clothes that I wore at around 5 or 6 months. I'm a teacher, so I'll be home until September with my baby, which will hopefully give me enough time to get back as close to pre-pregnancy clothes as possible.
  • Probably sweats/shorts and hubby's baggy shirts for a bit for me. But I'm not going back to work, so nothing to dress up for. I still wear my pre-pregnancy pants with a belly band thing so you can't tell they aren't buttoned... so if nothing else maybe you can do that with your pants for work if you don't feel like wearing maternity pants anymore
  • It is definitely not unrealistic to think you could be in pre-pregnancy clothing by 6 weeks, but really, no one knows how fast they are going to bounce back. Some women can be back into them within a few weeks, some never get back to their pre-pregnancy size.
  • As PPs have said, it's possible, but I wouldn't count on it. Especially if you plan to BF, you have to be careful that you're not losing weight so fast it effects your milk supply. With DD I wore maternity clothes for a half second but then bought a couple pieces a size up cheap from Old Navy until I fit back into all my usual clothes. It took me about 3 months to get back to pre-pregnancy weight.

It probably also depends how much weight you put on during pregnancy, too. With DD I gained somewhere between 35-40 lbs.

  • I don't think it's unrealistic to be back in pre pregnancy jeans in 6 weeks. It just depends on ur body. I know women that were. I'm still wearing mine at 38+3. I bought a bunch of cute yoga pants which I've never worn before but they are now my new bf :-). I also got cute flowy tanks. I'm more so wondering...are u still too sore to have on jeans? Especially tight ones?
  • Awesome ideas ladies. I'm tired of my maturity clothes bc I only have a few that I've been wearing since forever. But they are a viable option if nothing else fits. I don't want to buy anything else. But the belly band could totally save me and I hadn't considered it. Thanks for your input!
