Twins?!

So confused! I get to wait all weekend long to get answers

But had my mid-preg ultrasound Mon and found out together with fam today what gender was. Have two pics that "show gender" - one pic has typed on it "I'm a boy" and the other pic "I'm a girl". What the heck?! No one has said a word to me about twins before today?! Is that common to not find out until 20 weeks...even with an ultrasound (and pics) at 9 weeks that were of just one baby??? TIA - stressed out mommy over here! I am quite a bit bigger this time than with my 1st child - but I never did lose baby weight from my 1st either. Hah!

Wow! That would be a really strange way to find out you are having twins! I would think they would have mentioned twins to you at your u/s!?! We found out we were having twins with my last pregnancy during an u/s to date the pregnancy. I was 11 weeks along at the time. The u/s tech obviously thought we knew because she casually mentioned that the twins both were very active and I just about fell off the table and dh was very close to fainting, lol. Keep us updated!

I'm having twins and found out at 9 weeks. We could clearly see both of them. I've had 2 ultrasounds since and both times you could definitely see 2 separate babies.

If they don't look hard they can miss them on the early us you had. I asked specifically on my 8 week us and she looked harder is all I can say. We have twins in the family so I wanted to make sure early. Did you watch any of the 20 week US cause I think you should have seen them both easily then? Hopefully you get some answers soon GL

My thought was "do you have someone else's gender pic?" My next thought is that they printed one with a typo and fixed it on the other one and messed up and gave you both? I would call someone for confirmation of what's going on.

That would be a very strange way to tell you that you are having twins, and since there are added risks with multiples they should have discussed it with you. I'm interested to hear what they say!

I keep thinking about this. I would think if the u/s revealed twins your OB would have called you to talk about that. If you had the u/s Monday it seems they would have had plenty of time to get the results.

Wow, that is crazy! I am carrying twins and had ultrasounds at 6,8,10,12,15 and 18 weeks. I would say by 10 weeks it was pretty hard to not see the second sac!

And of course this has to happen and force you to wait over the weekend - the suspense would drive me nuts!!! Good luck! And if it is twins, we have a weekly checkin on Thursdays.

I agree with everyone that this is soooo not computing. My name is at the top of both pics and they look very similar so they are both my pics - but what a grave mistake to make by my tech if she accidentally typed something different on each photo! It's killing me for sure. But Will let y'all know tomorrow (hopefully)! Only twins, that I know of, on my husband's side not mine....

When we got an elective ultrasound done to find out they said they were going to try and get a picture of the areas. They would then determine the gender based on the that showed up the most number of times. There was no question all 5 times that he was a boy. She may have been doing that. That one picture looked like a boy but the other looked like a girl. This could definitely be the case if there is no clear shot.

Wow - this is crazy! However, I have an ex-coworker that found out at her 20 week anatomy scan that she was having twins. The tech said something about twins and she said her, her hubby and their son were all in shock! Then the tech was like "You didn't know you were having twins?" And she left the room for a few minutes to let them gather their thoughts..lol So I'd say, yes, it does happen where people find out at 20 weeks that they're having twins but if you had a dating u/s at 9 weeks, you would think they would've been able to see two babies then.

Anyways, PLEASE update us! I'm anxious to see if you really do have twins in there or what their explanation is for the goof up!

From my readings twins only come from mom's side not the fathers.. But could also be first generation twins as well. I agree with others you should see two sacks or babies much earlier than this in your ultrasounds... I found out about my twins at 9 weeks! (Currently 17)

Has OP posted anywhere else. Maybe her computer is out of service or she's working through some stuff of her own because of what she found out. Or maybe we just made her feel silly for thinking she was having twins and now she doesn't wanna say we were right and it was a mistake. Or maybe she really IS having twins and needs time to process that.

If you go to her profile she only has 1 discussion, 1 reply and 4 love its. Says she joined in 2011 and if she only has that little bit of activity, I'd say this is probably a hoax. I'd LOVE to be proved wrong though cause this is an interesting story! Lol

I was measuring big this time and unsure of LMP so my doc had us do a US at 13 weeks and mine were really far apart (twins). The only reason they looked for baby b was that something flashed across the screen while they were checking on baby a. In general the first US with my practice is 20 weeks unless you had past complications or were unsure of LMP. Congrats on the news! We waited 2 weeks to talk to my OB after the US but while you are still spinning from the surprise the wait is long. At about 3 days we finally lost the stress and just enjoyed the reality of twins. I hope it goes faster for you.

But! The one thing that makes me ever so slightly hopeful is that I think this site counts time on theknot as time here too. I think I have a two year badge or something and I definitely haven't been here two years! But that's probably wishful thinking...
