Membranes stripped... not really confident

I know there's a ton of these posts right now, but I'm 38+6 today, and my MW checked my cervix and said, "your cervix is very soft, like putting your fingers in pudding (kinda gross, lol), but you're only about 1.5cm dialated and about 60% effaced.. " so, I had her strip my membranes. It was super uncomfortable because I'm hardly dialated, but she managed to remove the rest of my mucus plug. She told me I may cramp, bleed and contract, and any results would be felt like 12-24 hours later. So I went home and rested. The only result thus far is extreme drowsiness... Not sure if that's common, but it felt like someone drugged me about 30 minutes after I had it done. I've had no other effects thus far, not even bleeding. I'm slightly disappointed... But, I have another appt on Tuesday next week, and my MW said she'd try again if I had no action... *Sigh*

Re: Membranes stripped... not really confident

  • My doctor says you have results from 24-48 hours after being swept. So don't be too discouraged yet. Hope you get to meet your little one soon!

  • Literally the same thing happened to me yesterday. I'm 39 weeks exactly, about 2 cm dialted and 60% effaced. Dr stripped my membranes, mine didn't hurt just really uncomfortable. She told me I'd have bleeding and cramping and if it was going to work it would be in the next 24 hours. No bleeding, slight cramping, I'm still pregnant :) definitely disappointing because I'm so anxious to meet my little guy, but he must not be ready yet. Fingers crossed he comes on his own this week so we can avoid induction next week. Best of luck to you!!
  • Ugh, well its been 24 hours now, still no action. My MIL is here too... Which is incredibly stressful too... And she says she's staying til the baby comes... So, you know, any day now would be nice.
  • I got my membranes stripped Thursday at noon. And my entire mucus plug came out this morning, and I have been contracting ever since. Hang in there.
  • any progress?

  • @chicago1985 not really. I've lost all of my mucus plug, and today after lunch I started having pretty good contractions that were 5 minutes apart and about 30 seconds long. They're still going on now, about six hours later, but they've slowed down and become less painful... So, no real good sign yet. Sigh... I'm 39+1 today... My first was born at 39+3 after 60 hours of labor, so I'm hoping this one comes a little easier and this isn't the start of the same prolonged process...
