breasfeeding and formula feeding.

My DD is 7-week old, i am breastfeeding her and planning to supplement her with formula, what kind and size of nipple that mimics breast nipple?

Re: breasfeeding and formula feeding.

  • All brands have their own nipple that they claim mimics the breast, but obviously none is perfect. Some babies won't care and others (like mine) will be very picky. Buy a few different types and see if there's one your baby prefers. That's about all you can do.

There are different levels of flow for nipples. Slow flow is for 0-3 months, medium flow is 3+ and there is one level above that also. I just ordered some medium flow nipples to see if that helps my son, even though he's only 2 months. I'm thinking maybe he doesn't get enough milk right away and gets frustrated.

    It's all trial and error.

  • Our lactation consultant said that if you plan to continue breast feeding you should always use the slowest flow possible because otherwise your baby might start rejecting the breast as it is not as fast flowing. She recommended Playtex Ventaire slow flow. Good luck!
