Success turning a breech baby?

I just returned from a prenatal appointment where I learned that baby - who was head down at my last appointment - has now flipped and is breech. I'm 36+5. My midwife and doula recommended a bunch of things to try to turn him. In case none of them work, I also have a version scheduled for next week.

Does anyone have experience in turning a breech baby?

Re: Success turning a breech baby?

  • I had my version this morning but it was unsuccessful. We have our c- section scheduled for 5/15 and she's due on 5/21. We're at 36+1 and my Dr. said there's not much room for her to turn on her own any more. I was nervous before going in but they really do a good job of monitoring baby and mommy. I can't lie though, it is very unpleasant. On the upside though it only lasts about a minute each try and they attempted it 3 times. The hubby was a trooper and let me nearly break his hand lol. I hope it works for you and you get to enjoy a natural birth. Good luck momma!

  • My version today was also unsuccessful. Good luck with yours
  • Would you mind sharing some of the things your midwife and double recommended?
  • @MommyWegner and @CordeliaD87 - I'm so sorry your versions didn't work this morning. That's really disappointing. I'm bummed.

@keitlin415 - some of the things they recommended were butt-up poses like child's pose, downward facing dog, and the inverted breech pose from spinningbabies.com. Also, an appointment with a chiropractor who is certified in the Webster technique and moxibustion from an acupuncturist. And finally, playing music or having DH talk to baby really low to try to draw his head down

  • I had my version on Wednesday, also unsuccessful. I was at 36w5d at that point and he has room to move, he just didn't feel like it.

I've tried a lot of things on spinningbabies.com, moxibustion, chiropractic, stretching, icing the head, warm bath that touches just the bottom of the belly, putting music "down there" etc.

    Nothing has worked for me.

C section is scheduled for 5/12 due date is 5/15.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks so much I'm going to start doing some of that...my babe is still floating, but she definitely was head up yesterday... Trying not to stress about it!
  • I've heard miraculous stories about women using peppermint essential oil. They mix a few drops with something else (like milk, or olive oil, or something) and put it on top.of their bellies. Look it up! Awesome results.
  • I had a successful version last week at 37w2days. My little guy was so stubborn, nothing was working (chiropractor, spinning babies exercises). It was uncomfortable but the pain only lasts for about 10 seconds. It took the doctors 2 attempts. It's a quick procedure and I'm definitely happy I did it!
