Sugar Aversion

I am 25 weeks pregnant and still throw up anytime that I eat anything sweet. I have my glucose test in 3 weeks. Has anyone ever heard of this issue? Could this be a symptom of GD or signify a problem with the baby? Of course I will bring this to the attention of my doctor asap. Just wondering if I'm not alone.

Re: Sugar Aversion

  • I am the same way. I can't drink or eat anything sweet. I'm trying to look on the positive side saving me some extra weight lol. I have a 7 year old and was the same way way with him.

  • I cannot eat anything sweet at all this entire pregnancy. I don't throw up or technically get sick, it just tastes like crap. If I think I really want something sweet and have some, I feel like it sticks around on my taste buds for hours with a sickly, over sweet, fake sugar taste.

  • I've had this both pregnancies and it's just an aversion. All my glucose tests have been fine. For me it feels like once I eat sugar and the insulin response starts I get queasy which makes me not want anything sweet ever. By the end of pregnancy though I do like sweets a tiny bit more. By breastfeeding time, I'm all about the carbs!

  • I'm diabetic, have been for years, Just fyi, insulin takes away the sugar so you would normally feel sick or queasy if your insulin was not reacting quick enough. With that said, OP, with you having an aversion to sugar, it could point to GD or it could just be a crazy pregnancy symptom. I had an aversion to coffee, (good thing because I have up caffeine anyway), anytime I would smell coffee being brewed, I would throw up. I wouldn't worry about baby, I'm sure baby is fine and you probably are too! All pregnancies are different!
