Squirming all night!

LO goes down around 8-8:30 and will sleep between 5-6 hours. We will nurse after that first stretch and then he goes back down. After that, he wakes up almost hourly! Previously, I would get him out every time and feed him thinking he wasn't filling up enough, but he never ate much and still woke up several times. The last few nights I've just given him his paci and he'll fall back asleep (for another 45 minutes to an hour) until he wakes up again. It never escalates to him crying, but he's generally squirming around, agitated, and definitely not sleeping soundly. Should I be nursing him any of those times he's waking up after initial feeding? Any suggestions on how to get him to sleep more soundly like he does in the first stretch?

Thanks!!

Re: Squirming all night!

  • I have the same issue, although it's been slowly getting better. My LO won't take a pacifier and nursing seems to be the only way to calm him (I tried just soothing last night since he'd eaten an hour before, and it was a failure). If the paci puts him to sleep I would use it for every other waking, if they're an hour apart, so that baby is fed every 2 hours. Hopefully the waking will lessen soon.

  • I am in the same boat except that my DD will go 4 hrs and then 1-2 hrs. I always think she is hungry but maybe she isn't because they are short feedings. It's hard to tell when you are exhausted
  • Same here!! 3-4 hours for the first stretch and then 1-2 hours. He'll wake up grunting. I usually feed him every time. The problem then becomes burping him after and not waking him up. He usually also poops so I have change his diaper and then calm him again.

I'm just hoping it'll change over time.
