Glucose Screening Test

I had the 2 hour glucose test and didn't seem to get sick, just tired. My doctor called me the other day and said I have Gestational Diabetes. The only test that was elevated was my fasting result and it was 97. I changed my diet around and I've been checking my blood sugar for a few days now and my numbers are always in range or lower. Has this happened to anyone else? Can just changing the diet make a difference I wonder.

  • Yes, of course your diet can make a difference.  Many people control their gestational diabetes by making changes to their diet.  Only if that does not work are you put on insulin or other medication.

Diet definitely can change. With diet and exercise you can manage it a lot easier. But I'm curious as to why they diagnosed you...your elevated number is lower then 100, even when someone is Not pregnant, they like you stay below 100. Well, good luck with whatever happens :D

Anything fasting number above 90 during pregnancy is considering gestational diabetic. The numbers are different when you are pregnant vs not pregnant.
Please excuse typos....auto correct hates me. =)

  • I'm curious too. The didn't even have me do the 3 hour test. I even experimented last night with an ice cream cone and my fasting this morning was 87. I have an appointment with my OB today and am going to see what he thinks.
  • I'm thinking it may also have to do with the fact that I didn't follow the eating guidelines for the 3 days prior (eat this and that for 3 days) because they gave me the order and said, "go do this tomorrow." So I never had a chance to eat better before the test.
