Checking Dilation and then...

I'm 38 + 3 and got checked today at the doctors office for dilation and how effaced I am. I also asked the doctor to sweep membranes too if possible. It hurt pretty bad and he was really feeling in there. Once he was out he told me that the babies head is as low as he's ever seen it, could not even sweep because I'm past that point and didn't want to push babies head. Also that he couldn't feel my dilation because it's posterior and the babies head is already there. I'm also fully thinned. He didn't give me how many days, but said he'd be very surprised if the baby wasn't here in the next week.
I hate getting my hopes up too much....anyone else been in a similar situation? I've heard of doctors feeling the head, but not to this point that it's past membrane sweeping and couldn't tell how dilated I am (apparently once contractions start cervix will be more anterior and that's how they'll measure in hospital)
