Baby movement in 9th month

I feel like my baby is moving a lot less now then ever. I had my 37 week appointment today (although I am closer to 38 weeks) and her heartbeat was good. The dr said there will be less movement because there is less room, but it still makes me nervous. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Re: Baby movement in 9th month

  • I was at my doctor's yesterday because I felt like the movements were less. They did an nst, which was good. They told me to never feel badly about coming in for less movement concerns. I asked the nurse practitioner how to know when it's a problem. She told me that the baby's movements will be less obvious now but should be happening very regularly. (Shifting vs big kicks) She said if ever I don't feel her in an hour of monitoring to get down to L&D right away.

Interestingly the baby moved like crazy today. It's very stressful.

  • Definitely felt less movement since I'm in the home stretch. It is very alarming. I end up poking at the baby to make sure everything is okay. But gosh- when the kicks come- they come with a fury!

  • Thanks good to hear I am not the only one. It's still nerve racking.
  • I find instead of quick kicks/punches like earlier in the pregnancy, they are more of slow movements due to baby stretching. My doctor says as long as the baby makes 6 movements in an hour there is no reason for concern. In earlier months my little one moved constantly! So it's definitely an adjustment.
  • I agree, it's less noticeable bc it's like shifting or pushing. If you go to monitor it and get a low count don't feel bad about calling and asking.
  • I have the same issue, but what would be wring with the baby if you only feel them6 times a day rather than 6 times an hour?
  • I had to go to L&D Monday due to lack of fetal movement.  It is sooooo scary when they stop moving!  They hooked us up to monitors to check his heart rate and to check for contractions.  I was having contractions (that I could not feel) and his heart rate seemed to be fine so they sent us home.  The rest of the week he has at least moved enough to not scare me.  Not sure there is much we can do to prevent being scared out of our minds as FTMs.  Good luck
