Pregnant after 35

OB thinks baby boy is breech..

Just got back from the OB.  They scheduled an u/s tomorrow afternoon because the NP is pretty sure he's breech.  She said if the u/s shows he's breech tomorrow.. they'll go ahead and schedule a CSection which scares the poo out of me.  But don't you think 34 weeks still gives him plenty of time to flip around?  She said we can decide at that point if we want to try and manually flip him or schedule the C and wait and see if he flips on his own.  To me it seems early.

She also said that there's only one more injection left in my vial of Makena and that they'll stop at 35 weeks which seems weird.  My last time through this we went through 37 weeks and I was told that was normal. I was also told by my old high risk team that a lot of women begin to labor about a week after their last injection.  Which is exactly what happened with my daughter. I was 37 weeks and 6 days and started contracting.  So I really don't want them to stop at 35 weeks.  She said well call the pharmacy and see if they'll ship another vial. Okey doke.

Re: OB thinks baby boy is breech..

  • yes, you have PLENTY of time for baby to turn!!!!  I am not sure any of mine were heads down at that time.  My last one turned on her due date..she wasn't breach, she was transverse...but she turned adn I had her 10 days later. AND if she could turn at 10 lbs 8 ou,  21 3/4 inches long, any baby can turn, I believe!

There are things you can do that are suppose to help baby turn.  A lot of putting your butt higher than your shoulders basically.  Also, many think that you should not recline back, like when you would sit on a bed and recline back onto pillows or sit on a couch that causes you to be in a bit of a leaned back position.  Instead sit straight up and slightly leaned forward from the hips.  Anyways, if you are interested google "spinning babies" and they will show you positions etc that are suppose to help.

  • cneiding Thank you! That's kind of what I thought.  I don't even remember them checking on position at 34 weeks with my last pregnancy, DD.  I kinda of thought it was early to be worrying about him not being head down yet.  I didn't really feel comfortable scheduling a c-section when I'm still 6 weeks away from delivery too.. I thought that was kind of early too but maybe I'm wrong.. I've never had a c-section before.

I do admit that I probably do recline a lot. Especially in bed. I have a hard time with reflux at night and tend to have to prop myself up a lot.  I also have a lot of sciatic pain that hurts a lot worse if I'm really laying all the way down.  I have probably 5 king size pillows surrounding me.

  • I hope he turns for you! When we discussed Makena my OB said that they would be given to 36 weeks.

  • Right. 36-37. I'll only be 35 weeks next week.

I'm hoping they check tomorrow and she was just wrong and he's head down.

  • I hope that baby turns for you!  My doc told us at 32 weeks that there was still plenty of time for the baby to turn, so hopefully, yours will get himself facing the right way and you won't have to schedule a C-section.  Keep us posted after your U/S!

  • They called me this morning and had to reschedule the u/s to Wednesday because the tech called in sick. :(  So I won't know until next week. I'm kind of bummed. I was kind of excited to see his little face today.

Definitely hoping he flips around.  Felt like he was doing it last night! Oh my gosh.. it actually hurt.. it felt like he just shoved his butt or his head in my right side and was churning. I was pushing on him trying to get him to move a different way because it was painful.  But I was watching Grey's Anatomy so I was already crying anyway. :)

  • My kid was head down at my last appointment and I just found out that he flipped and is breech now at 36w5d (he's actually measuring 38 weeks per today's u/s). My midwife says there's a good chance he could turn, especially because there's plenty of amniotic fluid, which means there's room to turn. We're acting on it right away with everything I can do including moxibustion at the acupuncturist, the Webster technique at a chiropractor, spinning babies techniques online, playing music down low to draw the kid's head down to listen, yoga poses like down dog and child's pose where your head is down and butt is up, and then finally we scheduled a version for next week. I'm currently researching effectiveness of these techniques but I'm willing to try all of them. Good luck to us!

  • supersarah77 I should really try some yoga poses. I love child's pose. That one feels so good anyway! I should do some this weekend maybe. I just felt like 34 weeks was early for them to be so concerned about it. We'll see what happens next week.  I would much prefer to have a vaginal birth just like my other two. That's for sure.
