Still Waiting...Patiently...for my Bump

edited April 2015 in September 2015 Moms
18 weeks on Friday, and while I can feel where baby is most mornings or when I'm lying flat on my back ("baby" being the hard lump that is my uterus), tummy is still as flat as it ever is. Granted, that translates to some abdominal pudge, but that was there before baby. While I'm not seriously concerned, having heard a heartbeat at 16 weeks and not having any indication that anything is wrong, I do have to ask: where in God's name is baby hiding in there?? My friend laughed and said baby is working hard at rearranging my organs right now, haha. Hopefully that's the case, cause I'd love to not have people look at me like I had three heads when I tell them I'm 4 and a half months pregnant! I'm telling you, though: my anatomy scan in two weeks can't come soon enough!

  • I'm at 20 w 4 days...I'm not so patiently waiting! Haha. No really I am so with you! I feel like today I lost my patience with the lack of bump.

  • I'm 19w2d and I have a little pudge too that was there before I got pregnant, so I'm also waiting (impatiently) to pop. Haven't felt any flutters or anything, and even though all my appts and scans have been fine, I'm still anxious for my anatomy scan to check in on baby.

Some of my family will touch my belly and say 'you're getting a belly', and I don't correct them because I know they're just excited, but when I'm naked, I look exactly the same and my belly has not grown much, if at all. I know stuff is happening on the inside, so I'm just trying to enjoy fitting into my regular pants for a few more weeks! Hope belly pops soon though :-)
  • I am 21 weeks this week and I had gastric bypass so even though I'm sure there's a bump there, it's hidden under excess skin from the surgery.

It's kinda frustrating, however, the ONE thing I have to look forward to is avoiding additional stretchmarks!

I bet if we revisit this conversation in a few months we'll be eating our words!!

  • 29 weeks I can still shave down there, tie my shoes have sex pretty comfortably still. So definitely some benifits :) Iv been waiting to pop for so long!! At 26 weeks I started to get a lil rounder but nothing to noticeable still. Good luck :P

Probably better to count our blessings for a few more weeks huh?! I'm tall and athletic so I just feel like I'm never gonna be a cute pregnant girl with a penguin waddle haha, and as weird as it may sound, I'm sort of looking forward to those days. I know I'll regret saying that when I'm huge and hot and sweaty at 40 weeks!!!! Haha
  • I know I will definitely eat my words in a few weeks, but the only thing I have resembling a bump is def too high for baby. So I also get people patting things being pushed out of place.

But still, I am not fitting regular clothes well and not fitting maternity clothes well.

My husband jokingly says it best...points to bottom of stomach and says "baby" and then top of Pudge and says "belly"...

I just want my b bump to connect into a d...and for people to be able to tell I am pregnant. That is all ;)

  • My guess is the longer your torso is and the taller you are, the longer it will take to show. I'm 5'3 with a short torso, and while I was only slightly visible until a few weeks ago, my bump made an obvious appearance around 18 weeks. With my short torso, I just think there's nowhere else to go but out!
  • @jen83mn, I hope that's the case! I'm 5'9 and have close to 6-8 inches between my hip and rib cage...evenly proportioned, but definitely long. Hopefully, there's just tons of room for baby to hide! Seriously makes you a little afraid of how much can hide in there when you're NOT pregnant!

  • I'm only 5'1" but was a size 16 to start. That's why I expected to show sooner. I guess they canceled each other out!
  • I'm tall and have no bump. I feel flabbier but that's it. People think I'm crazy or lying about being this far along.

  • I'm 5'2 and there is only 1.5 inches between my ribs and hip bone so my baby had no where else to go but straight out. I was a size 6/8 before pregnancy. I'm sure I'm going to look like I swallowed a beach ball in September. The bump made an obvious appearance in clothes about 14 weeks but just started looking pregnant without this week (17). My best friend is 5'9 and she was 24 weeks before she started showing both times.
  • I am turning 19 weeks tomorrow and I "popped" last week at exactly 18 weeks. Since then my belly doubled again as well. This is also the first time I felt my baby kick! I am a first time mom and we were anxiously waiting and had accepted that I wouldnt until I was 20 weeks or more so I'm thrilled. Basically, get excited because it can be any minute now. Check your belly every morning when your bladder is full and youre laying flat. All of a sudden you'll wake up with a bump. Also, the nights before I had major belly growth I had noticeably more round ligament pain.

I'm 18wks today too and feel like I'm in the same boat as you, ktewart! 2 weeks until I get to see baby again. Not really feeling any flutters. I want my bump but on the other hand if I gain less this pregnancy then there is less to lose after.
  • I'm 5'8" and my bump suddenly popped out pretty much over night last week in the middle of week 18. Till then I had just gotten a bit chunkier looking through the middle. Now I'm worried about it growing too fast! lol

  • I'm 21 weeks and still no visible bump...I can tell my bellys a little bigger than it was but no one else can. My regular clothes still fit too..i for sure thought I'd have a cute round bump by now but I guess because I'm tall and have a long torso it's taking longer! I was worried baby wasn't growing or something but dr said last week my belly is normal.
  • Mine is barley there. I could easily hide it under a loose shirt (especially with the way my boobs have grown). Combined with the fact that I (sadly) still have not put on weight, people seem surprised when I tell them I'm pregnant especially when I mention I'm entering into my 5th month. Right now it feels like my spine and abdominal muscles are having a war on who is going to give. I'm 5'7" with a BMI in the normal range.

  • It's nice to know I'm not alone in this...I'm at the tail end of September, so I'm behind a lot of you other moms, which helps me feels little better, too, thinking that my time will hopefully come soon. This baby pops out in the morning far more regularly these days, so hopefully soon, they will quit going back into hiding as soon as I get up and move around! I have my scan on May 8th - I'll relax, as long as everything is ok in there, and if I can get through 5-6 months without working around a beach ball for a stomach, I'll be quite happy. I just want to know baby is still growing in the mean time!

  • I'm 19w3d and I just popped a few days ago... Hold on there! It'll happen! It is nice to actually have a small bump instead of just looking like my pudge is sticking out.
