Hey ladies!

Anyone experience a wrong gender prediction? Im curious as to how often this happen, especially in these days of technology. Seems like predictions are being done suuuuper early these days. I would love to hear your stories!

  • It was a few years ago that it happened but one of my friends was told she was having a girl. She had a baby shower for the little girl and even hand painted the little girl's name on the nursery wall. A couple weeks before her due date she had an ultrasound done and they found out their little girl was a little boy. Her friends and family were all in a mad dash to change the nursery and return a bunch of clothes. It was very hectic. I don't think it happens too often but it does happen occasionally.
  • We have a friend who was told multiple times it was a girl and then the baby came & they called to see if I still had my son's baby clothes because it was a boy! She was kinda pissed lol
  • My sister iaw was told she was having a girl. Did a gender reveal, bought all the clothes, all that jazz. Then a month later they found out it was a boy.
  • I had a cousin who was expecting daughter #2. Only to wake up from her csection to find out it was a boy. No one believed the dad. He had to take pictures to show his wife and everyone in the waiting room to prove it was a boy. It was quite a dash to return everything, as it was ALL pink

  • There's always room for human error. I would bet the blood tests are wrong much less often.
One of my friends was told at 20 weeks that she was having a boy. Had to have another us at 32 weeks and oops! The tech was wrong, Eve is def a girl! Very serious gender disappointment for the family. :(
  • My sister was told with an early guess boy, and then at the 20 week it was a girl. That was 6 years ago.

My friend just a week ago had a wrong guess. She was 14 or 15 weeks and went to one of the boutiques. She is having twins and they told her 1 boy and 1 girl. At her Dr a week later they said 90% sure it was 2 boys.

I feel it can still happen often, especially the earlier you do it. Always have to leave room for human error. But I do hear about it less at 20 ish weeks.
  • I don't remember where I read it, but I saw that u/s are only 80% accurate with sex determination. The free-cell DNA tests are 99.5% accurate, according to the genetic counselor we met with.

  • At 17 weeks I was told my son was a girl. 5 weeks later they determined he was a boy.
  • I know 2 sister in laws that had this happen.. First one was told she was having a boy, went in to have him and it was a girl..then the other sister in law was told she was having a girl and went in and had a boy... It was crazy it happened twice within no time in the same family..
  • Thanks ladies! I'm just so curious because I had an elective scan done at 14 weeks and was told girl. I have had a strong feeling it's a boy. The ultrasound didn't look like boy or girl it was very unclear. But she was confident it was a girl. I have an anatomy scan May 5th with the OB so will be interesting to see if my intuition is right!

I was told at 14 weeks boy at 20 weeks they said girl. .im 29 weeks now only time will tell what baby is :) we did nursery all in pink but hubby says he keeps dreaming its a boy!? Have my 4D ultrasound this friday im excited to see what happens this time.
  • @gatormom73 Please update us on your ultrasound! I'm interested in knowing what you find out!
  • I'm 16 weeks and had an elective ultrasound 2 days ago and the tech seemed very sure it was a girl! I have 2 boys so I was beyond thrilled!! But I also keep worrying after hearing these stories! I go back in 2 weeks for gender scan at my ob so I'm hoping we have the same answer and that nothing has grown!
  • @Rikdoll hoping your girl stays a girl! Update me on your scan in a few weeks. I go back in exactly 2 weeks myself so I will update the thread with the results as well! Good luck!
  • I had a blood test done and we were told it was a girl. The genetics doctor told us it was 99.5% accuracy and out of her 6 years doing this she hadn't seen any of them been wrong. I found out at 13 weeks so much earlier than most. We are sticking with the results :)
  • Unfortunately blood test can be wrong. I had it and they said that the dna said it was a girl. Had an ultrasound last week and that was definitely a boy on the ultrasound. now I'm terrified there will be two babies when I deliver.

I have been wondering about this too. I had a technician guess girl at a 12 week U/S but she was very confident. We have two daughters and I secretly want one boy (and no more pregnancies lol) so I am wondering what I will find out at 20 weeks for that U/S.

Me too! 2 boys and the blood test came back girl. I'm super excited but worried at the same time that I'll go to my 20 week ultrasound and find a penis.
  • I want to go for an elective us on may 1st or may 5th. I'll be 15 weeks may 5th. This place in NJ does them starting at 12 weeks. She's been doing them since 1995. Only $55 for 15 mins 2d, quick 4d peek and a cd of pictures.
    She says 95-99% accuracy 12-16 week, 100% at 16week+
    Good idea?
  • @allyx1029 I had an elective scan done at 14 weeks. I was so excited! But I found it more confusing afterward. Like I said before I have had a strong feeling it's a boy since day 1, the lady said girl but didn't seem 100% confident. She kept looking afterward and was quick to finish up the scan. I know a lot of women here have had early scans and they turned out accurate. For me, I have doubts about my scan. I think my main hang up is she is not a doctor, she doesn't work for one, she works for a shop that makes money off me being impatient. Everyone is different in feelings, if it's eating you up and you want to go early, do it. It's all up to you. Just sharing my thoughts after my elective scan experience.
