December 2015 Moms

FaceTime Announcement

Hi!

Is anyone else in the situation where they'll have to do a FaceTime announcement? I am and starting to fret a little about it already!

I would have much preferred to visit but I don't have the holidays to fly home and my family aren't planning to visit me this year (guess I could just keep it hush until December :-o)!!!

Any thoughts on a nice way to do this? I feel like my Mom might get upset... Not that she wouldn't love to be a Grandma but it would be her first grandchild that will be loving so far away.

Any experiences that you guys have had or ideas would be soooo appreciated! Clare x

Re: FaceTime Announcement

  • I did this my first pregnancy for my parents/sister since they live abroad and i wouldn't have seen them for 5-6 months. I told them i had a present. And i wrapped my belly with a big red bow. And then got up so they can see my "wrapped" present on facetime. My dad/sister got it right away. Took my mom a second or two but then she screamed. First grandkid so it was a pretty big deal.

  • We had to facetime my parents they live in KY and we live in MN. I printed off a little sign that said we were pregnant and held it up to the screen so when they answered the call it was the first thing they saw. :) My mom didn't cry -- kinda disappointing, but my dad did so that made up for it.

Our little human will be #7 on both sides of the family
  • Aw these are all super cute ideas! We're in MN too and his family are all in England; we've been trying to figure out how to make a fun announcement to them (it'll be their first grandchild) over FaceTime and couldnt come up with anything. I'm thinking now of having a wrapped present to show them that when we take the lid off, it's the ultrasound picture
  • Yes! We just did ours. we were hoping to get pregnant earlier so we could tell our families while we were home for easter, but that didn't work out. So we just bought a pair of baby shoes and had them in the shot on FaceTime and waited for our parents to notice lol
  • We had to use FaceTime for baby#2 because my family lives in anther state and the next time I'll see them is when my niece is born. Since I didn't want to take away from her special time I wrote "Big Sister" on a piece of paper and let DD color it. We FaceTimed my family and said she colored them a picture. Mom figured it out right away, dad said "I know what it says but I don't know what it means." Lol he finally figured it out. They were so happy and said they were ok finding out that way.
  • Hehe when my mom cries I'm not sure it will be happy tears, more that she can't believe I'm having her grandchild away from home... Oh the guilt! These are lovely ideas :) x
  • I think I am going to send a Christmas ornament that my boys will decorate to my mom this time since we are having a Christmas baby and have her open it on FaceTime 'so the boys can see her reaction'
  • We live in abroad and announced via FaceTime to both sets of grandparents last night :) It's so lovely to have realtime video technology so we could see their reactions!! We didn't do anything special, just a "we have some news" at an appropriate juncture in the conversation but lots of surprise and delight all around :) I went to bed grinning!

I don't really have advice.. I just wanted to say this reading this whole thing made me cry.. #youknowyou'repregnantwhen...
  • We live in CO. and our families are on the East Coast. We plan on getting a shirt for my daughter that says, "Only child- expiring December 2015...big sister! " and having her wear it when we face time with everyone for Mother's Day. I wonder how long it will take for them to notice!

We live in OR and all our family is in MN. I'm going to send my mom a card wrapped like a small present and tell her it's a Mother's Day gift and not to open until we do a FaceTime on Mother's Day. I will get to see her face when she opens the card that says "some Mother's Day news for you, your daughter is going to be a mommy too. Due December 2015" with a pic of first ultrasound. DH thinks I'm cheesey but hey, it's our first. Breaking the news to my mom is going to be very special and I know she will never forget it!
