Membranes Stripped, Again!

hi ladies,

I'm now 40 wks 4 days and starting to feel a little bit bummed out about my status. I had a question about membrane stripping. I'm 2cm, 50% effaced and my dr. stripped my membranes today for the 2nd time. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this or any feedback? I know it is different for everyone but thought it couldn't hurt to ask.

Thank you :)

Re: Membranes Stripped, Again!

  • I'm 40 weeks + 3 days overdue today. I've had 3 membrane strippings already as my doc starts them early. Still no baby but hoping soon!! For you as well :)

  • I'm in the same boat, FTM, 40+2, 2cm & 50%, & had my membranes stripped yesterday. I had quite a bit of cramping and some spotting and pressure down low so I was really hoping things were going to get moving, so far no such luck and the cramping has gone away today. :( Hopefully our little ones will decide it's time to make their entrance soon! Good luck to you!

  • My doc is going to strip mine tomorrow morning, this is my second babe but I didn't have this done last time. I'm just curious, does it hurt?
  • This is my third baby, had it done for the first time yesterday. It's really uncomfortable, wouldn't say it hurts- not much more than a regular internal check anyway.
  • I had this done with my last pregnancy. My water broke less then 24 hours later. What I did after having them swept was have sex with DH as soon as we got home. I read having sex regularly when dilated proves to be effective because sperm weakens your bag of waters.
  • Is it confusing after you have your membranes swept to tell when you are having contractions? I've never had any contractions, but I was told to go to the hospital either if I see blood or if my water breaks or if my contractions fall into the (approx) 5-1-1 category. If I get my membranes stripped, will I be confused by the cramping and mistake them for contractions? Sorry if it's a dumb question.

  • I haven't had any more contractions after the membrane sweep than I had before. I don't think you'd be confused by them. If they hurt, like take your breath away, stop you in your tracks, are 5mins apart for an hour- then call your doc. @yellowdaisies84
