Can Anyone Relate?

So, I lost my mucus plug on Friday. I have felt fine until today. I feel lightheaded, nauseous and feel like I may be having contractions. The only reason I have not gone in is because I am not feeling contractions consistently. Also, I cannot tell if it's my son moving down there or a contraction. I am a FTM and do not really have too many females to discuss these issues with currently. I also keep going to the restroom. I feel like I have to pee all of the time and have had a BM twice in two hours. I know that you ladies aren't doctors, but many of you can relate. Are these normal pregnancy symptoms for 36 weeks or something like early labor? Thanks for your feedback!

Re: Can Anyone Relate?

  • It could be symptoms and it could be early labor. I know that's not helpful, but it's the truth. Until your contractions become consistent and timeable, there's really no way to tell. It's not worth going to the hospital before that happens anyway, since they would likely tell you to go home until your labor picks up.

If you aren't sure if something is a contraction or movement, feel your stomach with your hands. It was be firm all over with a contraction. It will have some squishy parts if it's just movement.

  • When my baby girl first dropped i felt a lot of that until i got used to her pressing down there. But here is the thing, i think contractions must feel different from 1 lady to another because Saturday to Friday i've had constant braxton's hicks but they were in noway regular, today my doctor told me i've dilated and it most probably happened when i thought i was having braxton's hicks meaning they were actual small contractions.

When is your next appointment? If it's in the next couple of days i would wait, if not try to move it up and go in as soon as possible. But don't worry even if it is labour it's very mild and hopefully you will make it to at least week 37 :)

    Good luck!
  • These sound similar to my friend's early labor. She woke up with what thought was a stomach bug and got into bed to rest. Baby arrived 12 hours later.

HOWEVER, if I've learned one thing about pregnancy is that symptoms differ widely from one woman to another, and the same symptom can mean entirely different things. So, the answer, as usual, is to consult your OB or midwife.

Hope you get some good news and relief (and perhaps even baby?) soon!  Good luck.
  • Thank you ladies for the advice. My midwife says it's a stomach bug, but that was from over the phone. I have an appointment on Thursday. She says to keep drinking water, but it's not helping at all. I understand that all symptoms mean something different and that's why I am trying to wait it out. I can't afford several ER visits. I hope it means baby is coming soon, but I would love to hold out a week more.
  • I didn't loose mucus plug but I feel lightheaded and nauseous since about 36 weeks now I'm 37 and 2 days. I also have a terrible heartburn reminds me beginning of pregnancy PLUS major pressure in abdomen. I'm 1 cm dialated and baby hasn't completely dropped yet according to my OBGYN but I have all these exhausting worrying uncomfortable sensations too
  • I was going thru close to the same thing. I ended up going in and dialating to 4 cm and then it stopped, a week later I woke up to my water breaking and contractions less then 5 minutes apart. The peeing thing is to be expected! It was my way of knowing the LO was dropping, this was my 3rd pregnancy and each one has been completely different. Good luck and I would say maybe wait until your appointment, unless you feel a big gush of fluids (believe me you will be able to tell the difference!) and if you question it, you can always have the midwife check to see if you are dialated!
