Hey Mommas! I need some advice! First of all I work at an elementary school as a teachers aide in Bay Area, I am constantly around germ filled kids with colds/flu. I have been sick since Friday with a cold, I'm taking the meds the dr said I could, however it's taking forever to get past this cold! I called out sick Monday & today. I feel much better, but not completely 100%, when should I go back to work?

The kids in my class were sick this past week along with another aide, I'm not sure if to go back & risk getting worse or to wait it out till I'm 100% again?!

Advice please!

  • I'd go back tomorrow. Especially since I'm trying to save my time off. You're going to get sick and the meds aren't going to help enough. I was sick the whole month of March it seems like. Just keep doing what you can and push through... Come home after work and rest. Let the laundry and dishes pile up, they'll still be there!!!

  • I'm a teacher too and I started using doterra essential oils this fall. For the first time in my 8 years as a teacher I have not had 1 cold or stomach virus this year. I highly recommend you look into using oils to help keep you from getting sick again.
  • I would go back tomorrow if you feel better because you can't get more sick from the same illness from being around others. Unless you were to get another illness, you should be fine.

It sort of bums me out that your primary concern is whether you'll get sick again and not whether you'll get someone else sick. I hate when sick people come to work and risk infecting everyone else, its a major pet peeve for me.
  • I would wait until you feel 100% again. Because one you can get other students and staff sick. And two because it takes a lot longer for us to feel better again. By going to work and pushing through the day you are burning your energy on work and it's not working towards helping you get better by fighting off your cold. But it's your body, you know it best.
  • As a teacher I can honestly say EVERYONE sends their kids to school sick. One more contagious person in an elementary school isn't going to make a difference. Besides your probably on the upswing anyway- take it easy and save that sick day for baby time!
  • Thank you all for your opinions!!
