C-section anxiety

I can go from being super excited and totally calm to getting super nervous and scared. I am having a c-section in 5 days and while I know how amazing it'll be to hold my baby and of course I'm excited to meet him, the anxiety keeps creeping up. I just need some encouragement and reassurance. If anyone has been through this before, I would love to hear from you! Thanks!!

Re: C-section anxiety

  • I have a friend who actually prefers c-sections! With her second she did not even try a natural! She said she was on her feet 3-4 hours later and all was good. I hope your experience is as pleasant as hers was, don't worry :)

Oh thank you Mars8k! That made me feel a lot better! :)
  • @rachelfaith05 I'm right there with you. Feeling all the excitement and nervous anticipation of the unknown. I still have 24 days to overthink it. ;) But hey, in 5 days and you'll be holding your little man!! So awesome!!
  • @twodreamers I'll surely let you know how it goes!! I can't wait to just have it over with and have him in my arms!
  • I am sure I would be the same. Just know the anxiety is temporary and this waiting period will pass. All will be well and then you'll have your little one! Yay!!!
  • Some women prefer csections. My doctor is suggesting one for me because of my pelvic bone size, but I am truly scared. I talked to family and they said csections were not as bad as their natural births. It's all up to your body and how quickly you heal. You'll do great! You will be holding your baby and totally forget about the anxiety of the csection. :0)
  • I'm a lurker from April but can totally relate! Mine is tomorrow morning, and it will be my third.  My scheduled c-section was awesome and recovery wasn't too bad. I think no matter how you deliver there are nerves that go along with it.  Good luck!
  • Thanks ladies!! So glad to have this message board! :)
  • I've had two and will be having another. Best advice is to get out of bed and walk as soon as they will let you. The most painful part will be the first time you do this but it only gets better from that time.

  • I have one scheduled soon too and this post totally made me feel better :). It's my first birth and first c-section and it's great to hear from the mamas who've done it before and say it wasn't bad. We will do great and I'll be thinking of you ladies! The good news is we won't have hours and hours of painful labor and no perineal tearing ;)
  • I have it my first baby and it wasn't bad at all! Didn't even notice it and I was up and walking that night and felt great. Yes you definitely have to be cautious about your scar the first few weeks but it was such a breeZe. I'm having another one may 27th so hoping it goes as easy! My advice is to jaut walk walk walk and walk as early as you can without over doing it!
  • Don't mean to put a damper on the post but I had a csection and it was a pretty difficult recovery.

Everyone is different and I've had friends who felt great. This wasn't the case for me. I had trouble getting around for a few days and found the incision very painful.

I am having a repeat section with this baby and I am nervous. Keeping hope that this time will be easier. But with a toddler running around at home I'm going to have to be very cautious.

You will be ok but be prepared that the recovery may not be so
    Easy.

Lurking from June... Like pp, I don't want to be a downer but a C-section is major surgery. Keep in mind that everyone is different. I also agree that you should try to walk as much as possible once you feel up to it. But of course don't over do it!
I had a C-section with my first. My recovery was not easy but I had a tough 12+ hour labour before having the surgery . My OB told me that recovery can be more difficult after going through hours of labour...

Good luck! I hope your recovery is much easier than mine was!
  • I'm nervous for my second csection even though I know what to expect. Just thinking of holding my baby helps calm my nerves. In any case this time I will be sure to take my pain meds on time and not try to tough it out.
