High-Risk Pregnancy

Placenta Accreta?

Anyone else have this?  This is now the concern with my pregnancy. Had an ultrasound on Monday and the concern was the baby being attached to the incision site.  Today the ultrasound shows a healthy baby with strong HB.  The baby has moved up a bit into the uterus. But, I have placenta previa (will be 7 weeks tomorrow) and the very edge of the placenta is on top of my c-section scar.  I have read some terrifying things about this and although I haven't been diagnosed with it yet, I am just hoping the placenta moves and I am in the clear.  But I have a 60% change of developing this now that I have been diagnosed with previa.

Just wanting to hear some success stories with those who have had this.  I am lucky at this point that it is just the edge and not the whole placenta laying on the incision.  But I am scared.

Thanks for anything anyone can tell me right now.

Re: Placenta Accreta?

  • I was concerned about this when they discovered my anterior placenta was laying over my c-section scar (no previa). My OB was no help and just said "it's really rare". I had a follow up with a high risk OB and during the ultrasound she showed me exactly where my placenta was and where my scar was.

That week of waiting for my high risk appt was awful. Just don't read too many stories! You still have lots of time for the placenta to move.

  • Thanks for the encouraging words.  I saw a perinatologist yesterday.  The placenta has moved and is now not touching the incision site.  So thankful for the ultrasound technology to be able to determine this.  I am still at risk but we won't know more until I am further along.  I go back to see the perinatologist at 18 weeks to check for accreta.
